Re: A good automatic?

As I said in the said in the previous post, small engines need multiple gears to keep them in a narrow operating range. If I'm going to drive an auto, the best way is to forget controlling it and see how it handles itself. And regarding downshifting too quickly, I'd rather have it so do that than to...

Re: A good automatic?

Besides the 10 speed ZFAstronic (an automated 10 speed manual that the DMV classifies as an auto since there are only 2 pedals), I'd say my mom's Honda Fit with a 5 speed auto is the best auto I've driven. -It never hunts for any gear while going uphill; there are cars that claims to have hill logic...

Re: Slow shifting and the risk of being rear-ended

Seriously kid, drop it. You're barking up the wrong tree. +0.5 I, too, have rarely notice people getting close to me on my 1-2 shifts, at least on flat ground. Let's not bark up the wrong tree and start spit balling about doing the 1-2 shift on a hill. As soon as you push in that clutch pedal, you ...

Re: Upshifting Issues on clutch with very small friction zon

Sounds to me like you have a car that doesn't have a stock clutch. By your description, it almost sounds like it has a puck clutch. Pardon my ignorance, but what is a puck clutch? Is it similar to what my friend says he had in his Mustang, a "stage three" racing clutch? http://www.aaronca...

Re: Manual Dodge Darts not selling

Only Honda could. Back in 2000, the S2000 and Insight were all over the road. Neither of them had a manual that year. Dodge simply doesn't offer a good enough car for the same stunt

Re: Why do big rigs have unsynchronized transmissions?

Clutch brake stops the input only so that you can put it in gear from a dead stop and go. Without it, you put your foot down for about 5 seconds waiting for all those gears to stop; that's just too slow when the lights turn green and you are sitting there waiting. Clutch brake is activated by pressi...

Re: rev matching

I usually ease into the gas as soon as the clutch goes dow and hold the gas down until the rev gets to where it needs to be. Blipping works for low speed downshifts. But for those times when I'm grabbing 2nd at high speed or shifting to first on the fly, where precise rev is required, I'd waste a li...

Re: Parking brake reminder / warning

Generally not. However the gears may not be in aligned so you cannot always shift into the gear you want. Just don't force it in if it doesn't want to go in

A year ago when I was in my best shape ever, a 40 mile ride on the road didn't phase me one bit. I really miss that body now

Re: I'm not stepping on my brake pedal!

Usually, my parking brake handle goes up and feet off of the ped
als when I stop at a light, manual or automatic. that's usually when I'm paying the least attention to driving and I wouldn't want the vehicle to move due to my inattention.

Re: Hang Up The Phone And Drive

Cant help but get annoyed at articles like these. Vast majority of your driving time is spent in top gear while cruising. One can text while cursing in a manual as well as in auto. The time spent shifting during acceleration is minor compared to time cruising. Driving a manual doesn't stop anything...

We've been over this way back in the 07. I think it is great but it has its drawbacks. It would make a great gear splitter.

Re: Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

First off, sweet car. I wish Honda still make cars like this. As for to how Hondas needed to be launched, when I test drove a Fit, it was entirely comfortable with getting moving right off idle. In fact, it felt less likely to stall then my xB, a car that I was completely used to. Don't believe the ...

Re: How many time have you shifted from 5 to 2?

Too many times to count. There was this moderately steep hill near where I live and I would be doing 40 in 5th at the top. I would order up about 4000rpm on the tach, slip it in2nd, and just rode down the hill. At the foot of that hill I would be about 100 short of redline.

Re: Do i have to rev match when down shifting gears?

Let out the clutch very slowly. Living in Hong Kong, I frequently ride mini buses with sticks. Unlike the crusty old drivers, them young'uns drove as if they never had been taught to rev match.
