Re: Odd Vehicles With A Manual Trans

Many of the school buses I rode in the '80s and into the early '90s were manual. This was in Western New York. I remember we had one that must have had no synchros left at all, every shift seemed to be accompanied by loud grinding, and we would laugh and make fun of the driver not knowing how to use...

Re: First New Vehicle - 2015 Jeep Renegade

How is your smileage? Any thoughts on the shifting? I do majority highway driving, and my overall average is 31-32 mpg over the past 24,000 miles (since I purchased the Jeep in August '15). The manual shifter on this vehicle is quite nice and is generally praised by the owners that I've had contact...

Another great shirt from Blipshift

I have their "BORED" shirt, got one for my brother, too. Today's shirt is another great one for the manual-head:

Re: New car - 2005 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm really enjoying the Spec V. I had it into the dealer this morning to have the ECU remapped (recall from 2007 that was never done). They also inspected the infamous pre-cat and said it showed no signs of failure. I've already ordered a header so that I can get rid of...

Re: Long time lurker, still have questions...

^^^What he said. You are doing fine. You'll find that as time goes on, everything becomes more natural. You'll become more familiar with every little facet of how your car shifts, you'll try different techniques, timing, etc. Some will feel right, and some won't. Hell I've been driving manuals for o...

Re: The joy of driving (and great driving roads!)

Yeah, that's always been a problem there, because it's a U.S. Route and some truckers see it on a map as a shortcut to Knoxville and don't realize what they're getting into. I can't imagine anyone taking a rig on that road willingly.

Re: The joy of driving (and great driving roads!)

The best road I've personally ever driven is the Tail of the Dragon, U.S. Rt 129 across the NC/TN state line. Here's a pic of me and my '88 200SX there back in 2004:

Re: Long time lurker, still have questions...

What you're describing sounds like a fine launch to me, much easier on the clutch than "leading" with the gas and revving the engine as the clutch engages.

Re: rev matching

^^I've always been fascinated by this fact. If the RPM's are a bit lower than the final engine speed, and rising when the clutch bites it's much smoother then if they are at all above the final engine speed. It's like the rpm's have their own momentum, not just the first order-momentum of the engine...

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)

tylers newest purchase, gun wise: A yugoslavian 7.62x25mm Tokarev Pistol - says its an old war gun. he apparently got it for 200$... Nice - Yugo version of the TT-33 I assume? That is a fun caliber. I don't know if there's still cases of Polish & Yugoslavian surplus ammo around, I'm not even cl...

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)

I feel pretty good about upgrading my Kel-Tec P32 to the P3-AT, which I did last summer. I use it for pocket carry in warm weather, otherwise it's the F.E.G. until I decide on a compact 9mm.

Re: Poll: Who is your cell phone service provider?

I'm on Verizon, got transferred over from Alltel with the buy-out. Coverage is awesome. Last fall I was in Oriental, NC, a little town on the coast, for a wedding. Most of my iPhone-loving friends had At&T. I was the only one who had a signal. I stayed with Verizon because I spent 8 happy years ...
