What I get from it is, "Whale isle bee. Eye never herd of tug. Tim Tam to swear."

I think I missed one or two. :D

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I've briefly driven a Tacoma. Their option book with respect to engines, cabs, and beds is better than Colorado's if you want the correct transmission, but that's not saying a lot.

Wrangler is a lot of money for what it is.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

With no badging, the Nissan in that vintage that would probably be considered most worth importing would be a Skyline. I've seen a few R32s and know it's not one of those. This was a weird little hatchback that sounded really sick. Have you seen R30s and R31s? There were several generations in the ...

Re: Finally got another car

If the clutch were dragging a little when it shouldn't, that could exacerbate issues with the lower-gear (hardest-working) synchros.

If shifts are equally bad with the engine off and clutch released the clutch is probably not a significant factor.

Re: Finally got another car

A clutch release system that's not fully effective when cold could also be contributing. Make sure the fluid is full and clean. Also try shifting into another gear first and then immediately into first.

Re: Winter Tars

Not a big surprise. Instrumented braking tests would be dominated by grip with the surface (in cold temperatures, advantage anything but summer tires) but the subjective handling assessment well below the limit would be dominated by sidewall stiffness (advantage: summers).

Where it's not a legal requirement the insurance company probably gives them a break for having it as a company requirement.

That was the situation I was in a few years back when they lowered our leave cap. I didn't work a five-day week for months trying to burn it all with minimal impact.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

My dad came over to start the festivities because I was delayed on my way home so I don't have an accurate count but I think there were the usual slightly-over-100 customers. My excess victuals supply was small enough to be making me nervous at the end of the night and easily consumed by myself the ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

OK, I answered my own question with the aid of Google image search. A Pace Arrow motorhome, which I'm still having a tough time finding with five-lug wheels, other than the article on that specific project.

What was that thing previously? I can't think of ever having seen five-lug wheels that size.

Re: Change your rearview mirror bearing

Even the engineers apparently don't always grasp the concept. I rented a GMC Savana cargo van for a business trip. The mirrors didn't have enough travel to set correctly. Even worse when there are no windows aft of the front doors.

Re: You Gotta Beef Wit Dat?

Probably just trying to cut corners to sqeeze out some more profit which seems to be the order of the day. VW cut a few corners with their diesel emission scandal, paid a fine or Two and life goes on for them. This is different and definitively not OK. The diesel scandal skirted a regulatory requir...
