Re: Honest Engines

Actually, the CDL requirement is based on GCWR. GCWR 26,001+ with a trailer GVWR 10,000+ drives a CDL requirement even if the trailer is unloaded. They've been technically over that for a long time.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Expedition is indeed still around. My mom just bought one, 2WD at that. Really nice truck and the 3.5L is serious business. I drove it for a family vacation and there's a chance I've still put most of the miles on it. I would not describe manually shifting any class vehicle "a joke." It wa...

Re: Manual cars face extinction as congestion triggers a clutch backlash

Well, it's pretty hard to find a manual in a scooter. As for bigger conveyances... There is a company called Ridley making automatic motorcycles. The Can-Am Spyder reverse trike has both manual and paddle-shift options and the majority are apparently sold with the latter. There are aftermarket compa...

Re: Shifting into second as soon as you get rolling

Presumably, I would expect cooperation becomes collusion when there is some underlying illegality to the common objective. With VAG being involved and diesel emissions systems being specifically mentioned, I'd say the allegation is that they were "cooperating" on ways to circumvent emissio...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I actually had to buy a MiniUSB charger last week because I left two of my batteries for my GoPro (4 Black) on the charger at home when I went on my trip. They skipped Micro entirely, going from Mini to Type C for the 5.

Re: Tired of Junk Clutch Hydraulics

I am pleased that we have an automotive historian and much more, here on Standardshift. It is always enlightening to read your informative posts. Yeah, if I were in the market for a diesel pickup, you bet I would be looking at a Cummins straight 6. Never was fond of bent engines. I used to be a For...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

last samsung eye had was an S3 (you red that write), so my samsung experience is outdated. was a decent phone for its time though, despite the poor battery life and performance issues. the screen was different from what other companies were using (closer to the newer OLED or whatever screens they u...

A little misleading as presented there. They're including hybrid and even mild hybrid as electrified.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I've never seen the point either. To see over you'd need to be FEET taller than everybody else. I find I seldom get useful information through other vehicles' windows, between large headrests and the popularity of deep tint. In my experience, even trying often takes enough focus away from other thin...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

To the extent that any of that is true, it's a sign of how little effort most manufacturers put into the segment. A large sedan SHOULD be more economical and have markedly better driving dynamics than any van or crossover, just by the physics of aerodynamics and CG. A longer/lower/wider sedan should...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

STi is the most aggressive performance-oriented model. Some reviewers consider it too much for a daily driver, particularly the suspension tuning.

Re: Ouch-Heel Toe Flub

Most vehicles seem to be set up fairly well for the official way to heel and toe if you're near braking limits. I never am. I wind up usually using heel on the brake and toe on the gas and I still had to make a pedal extender for the gas on my new truck.

Re: Ouch-Heel Toe Flub

Shortly after I got the new (to me) truck, I was trapped in the right lane of the highway by traffic passing on my left and tried to slow slightly to allow traffic merging in. Said traffic got alongside my front fender and nailed the binders. My hand forced, I hit third (which would have been the ri...

I didn't realize that Ford had committed so aggressively to DCTs. I had told my girlfriend I thought something was wrong with her torque converter. I guess we can rule that out. :)
