Discuss Volt vs Leaf

I know this forum is oriented towards manual tranny, and I love them, but tbh, I am looking forward towards the future EV's. I am inclining totally for the Leaf being pure electric at a very decent price with very decent specs (in it's first year, I expect the specs to greatly increase after a few y...

Re: Windshield and waves

This windshield is actually a Honda manufactured glass. I had extra insurance and I could've got a windshield directly from honda rather than having a standard windshield. Now, I actually went in a few cars as I went to the honda dealership, and true, they all have it, maybe at various degrees, can'...

Windshield and waves

Hey there. So I just replaced my windshield. Now when you look to thru the right side of the windshield (when your in driving position) and shift your head left and right I can see wave like distortions. I see vertical lines which are the cause of the distortion. I do not remember seeing this on my ...

Oil change

Hi, again :) So I have the civic from '07 and they have those maintainance minders that tells you when to change the oil and what kind of maintainance it requires. Anyway, I think I didn't change my oil for over a year, since in the last year I only drove about 5-6k kms. Do oils these days have expi...

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

No...wheel bearings never wear exactly evenly. It could be that the other one will wear out in another 10,000 miles, or it could be that the roads are bumpier in the center than the edge, or that you turn right harder/more often than left (putting more weight on the left bearing), or your different...

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

Actually I don't think it's pulling, I live in a hilly area, so I'm guessing roads might be inclined. I did about 70km and it pulled left and right, so it must be the road. Now I would like your opinion how can only 1 bearing get wore off. If they wear, wouldn't both of them should have the same lev...

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

Ok, so they changed the power steering rack, and also the left wheel bearing. Seems that wore off, bit curious why only the left 1 got wore off tho. Shouldn't both of them got wore off?

Anyway, I kinda think it's now pulling to the left. Could it be because of the replaced wheel bearing?

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

Honda just called me and they told me the rack from the power steering needs to be replaced (no idea what that is exactly). Said something it was leaking, and when it warmed, it was self sealing. Also it makes that noise when gear is engaged because it puts more stress on the system. I did noticed a...

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

Well they won't be able to actually hear it because it needs to be cold. Not really keen in staying in service for 6 hours so they can hear the sound. However, I want to tell them the whine sounds like when you drive it in reverse and just make sure everything is fine in there? I don't know, do they...

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

Is this covered by the powertrain warranty? I would like to go and have it checked. It now kinda started getting the whine even when in neutral, still only when it's cold. After it warms up, the sound gradually disapears.

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

So should I go get it checked or just leave it as is and ask for a check at the next oil change? (I got about 4000km left)

Re: Wired sound from transmission when cold

No, I am very sure I never heard the whining noise before in forward gears. So as HolyCow, I am also wondering what changed. As for location, I'm in B.C., so very nice weather, temepratures ranging from -4° in winter to 25-30° in summer. I have the car for almost 2 years now too. Never changed anyth...

Wired sound from transmission when cold

Hey all. Do you know the sound the tranny makes when you move in reverse with a manual tranny? That humming noise (I'm guessing all of them have it, I only drove a '86 and my '07 civic). Well, now that same sound comes when I am in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc when the car is all cold (as in staying overnight...

Re: throwing the car in neutral

I was also under the impression that if your transmission is engaged with the engine, it will consume 0 fuel if the RPM is higher than idle, and you don't touch the acceleration. So if you go downhill just stick it into any gear where you like your engine braking ratio vs you having to brake and enj...
