Re: Shifter not going smoothly into first..

I've done that to my third gear a few times where I haven't pushed hard enough and I crunch gears. Quickly learnt to push a bit harder. My gears used to be really smooth, but very crunchy. We added some helper fluid to the gearbox and while it doesn't crunch anymore, it is a little harder to select ...

Re: My synchros

Recently all my gears were crunching badly - I guess because the car hadn't been driven regularly for a long time before I got it. My mechanic added some "helper" fluid and now they don't crunch at all. Except for reverse gear...no synchro...sometimes it crunches really badly even though I...

Re: squeaky sound when pressing the clutch

I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the noise gets worse. My clutch pedal has recently started making a little noise when I move it. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doens't. I was more concerned that my engine oil had gone a rather black colour shortly after a service...

Yeah, I'm back.

Re: I can now get smooth strong acceleration in my Mazda 3

Im confused, i thought that you were suppose to add some gas as you let up on the clutch?? There is a difference between giving it a little gas to rev-match and just planting your foot. The Mazda 3 does seem to take a bit of practice to drive smoothly as the engine seems to be extremely sensitive t...

Re: Clutching in and speed bumps

Know your car. I haven't yet met a speed bump that I couldn't get over in second gear. Know at which point your car will stall and only clutch in and downshift if you can't get over it.

Re: Driving with A/C

Well...there's the story of a V8 Holden Commodore belonging to a friend...a/c would always cut out whenever we got onto a hill and revs got over 1500...

The car was an auto.

Re: Driving with A/C

Can be quite dangerous in a small car - got a shock once when the a/c cut out and I suddenly jumped forwards!

Re: Handbrake as an auxiliary brake

Well you're the one who is obviously worried about looking "like the tards who hit their brakes every few seconds". So either you're a tailgater or you were just asking a random question. Myself, I've done handbrake stops a few times, and I do it particularly when I've just lifted o...

Don't tailgate or "gas it" too much. Problem solved. Sheesh.

ETC is the reason why a fleet of buses were off the road recently over here -they would randomly and dangerously accelerate at full throttle without input.
