Re: AMG's new 7-speed auto transmission has no torque converter!

I drive a 6-sp manual and use all the tricks. Even so, I have no doubt that driving a BMW M3 manual around any track, I'll go slower than driving a BMW M3 DSG. I've never done a back to back test manual and DSG with similar cars, but I've done simulations (read computer games) and it's consistently ...

If no then I think the points not emphasized enough.

This is the world's first production planetary transmission using a wet clutch for startup, thereafter using a computer to do double declutch rev matching.

It is UFO tech, no?

Re: AMG's new 7-speed auto transmission has no torque converter!

An auto is an auto is an auto. Dont care how fast or smooth it is. If it doesnt have an H pattern I dont want hide nor hair of the beast. I agree. This AMG transmission does all the cool things which we do, DD and HT etc. Difference is that we don't do it. But for the high end poseur, approaching a...

AMG's new 7-speed auto transmission has no torque converter!

AMG's new 7-speed auto transmission has no torque converter! It uses a wet clutch. Because there is no big commentary on this, I have to write my own bullshit, here goes. Many many months ago, German engineers from Mercedes put out a cryptic comment during journalists' query on why pre-production Me...

LOL on my car, Cayman w/6sp getrag, you can't get into 1st gear at anything above 10km/h without DC, so DC is like in my blood now. when I said natural, it meant ... I felt the transmission scrunch if I didn't DC into 2nd, but the transmission was so happy entering into 3 without DC. caysman, Many m...

caysman, well as long as your in your power band when leaving the corner in a N/A it doesn't matter how you get to it... But for a big jump like 5 -> 2 i'd say Double Clutch it.. blip in neutral instead of with clutch down, matches the transmission internals speeds so your synchros won't get screwe...

comingbackdown, for turbos, good point. It'll keep the turbos spooled.

But for NA, where you don't need spooling, even with a 5-2 directly without going sequentially, you still reach at the end of the shit, the rpm you want. So whether 5-2 or 5-4-3-2 the end result is the same.

Innit?

Rev Matching on braking: 5-4-3-2 or 5-2 ???

Look at this thread:

http://www.caymanclub.net/cayman-chat/2 ... ching.html

When braking for a corner, would you do 5-4-3-2 blipping all the gears, or 5-2 blipping once?

Re: the tranny SUCKS the stick into gear

STRANGE thing was, at the entrance to 2, the tranny SUCKED the stick into 2. Oh yes, that can happen. It's really just a matter of the synchros being at the right speed and you holding the shifter lightly in the gate. When the synchros are at the right speed they will just suck the stick into gear....

the tranny SUCKS the stick into gear

Honda Civic 2.0 Manual Transmission - just got off a test drive of the car. Strange thing is, I started off in first gear, rev to 4K rpm, then clutch in, start to shift to 2. STRANGE thing was, at the entrance to 2, the tranny SUCKED the stick into 2. WTF? Can somebody explain WTF happened? This doe...
