Re: Exiting/Driving in Underground Garage, and 1st Gear Question
I'd been wondering something similar myself. I know (largely from this site) that it doesn't damage the car, but is it bad in some other way (fuel, noise etc)? Or at such a short distance, does it not really matter?

Re: Help on smoothing upshifts
Also, if you want to see just how much a difference the AC makes in my car, turn it on, but make sure the AC button is off (compressor disengaged), accelerate a little in first, then let off the gas and let the engine braking take over. Then press the AC button to force the compressor to engage. Fe...

Re: Manual Drivers - Stick-shift or DSG?
http://forums.motortrend.com/70/6659551/the-general-forum/manual-drivers-stick-shift-or-dsg/index.html Saw this thread on the Motor Trend forum. Seems to be a question that is coming up more often. Fairly large number of folks who have DSG transmissions don't seem to like it all that much. Many MkI...

Re: Those Restless Nights
Today I did a bit of metashifting as I was driving around and I noticed I was paying absolutely no attention to the shifter, but it somehow ended up in 5th as I got to speed from a stop sign. Thats the odd thing about a manual, it becomes automatic. A Devil's-advocate question, but seeking an hones...

I think we need to put a little more faith in the ability of smart people - engineers, particularly - to develop innovative solutions to what is, essentially a technical problem: car engines are just not efficient enough and spit out too many pollutants. Check out this guy for example: http://www.fa...

Wait, they really have school buses for high schoolers? Wow... Not here at least. In the US they do in certain remote areas, or in cities with weak public transit where certain students have to attend schools outside their local area (magnet schools, charter schools, mandatory busing for desegregat...

he kind of knew about Osama da big mama before 9/11 (how many people here can say the same, eh?), and even had an oportunity to take him out when he FIRST started his terrorist attacks against the US (and there were others, believe it or not). he said no. You're entitled to your opinion of Clinton ...

Also, if we had direct voting, that would mean that large states like California and Texas would pretty much have all the say in elections, while candidates wouldn't even have to talk to a single person from Connecticut, Massachusetts, etc. They basically do already. :D Edit: In fact, just winning ...

It's so funny that people think the actual gears engage when you change gear  Do you believe how stupid some people are :? No, but not because of this. Not everyone who enjoys driving (even not everyone who enjoys driving enough to join a car forum on the Interwebs) knows how transmissions wor...
