I don't like to drive fast. I like to accelerate fast. Driving too fast can be dangerous. Accelerating fast is fun :) I've never understood the attraction of pure acceleration. The attraction of speed I understand, though I am largely past the age at which I feel it, but the attraction of mere acce...

Well I looked up Route 66 raceway, looks great! And they're gonna have a test and tune day this Saturday :D Gonna get some buddies and go for it! Now I'm just wondering, how do these things typically work? I know you don't just show up and get in line... so what are the specifics (cost/average waiti...

Well basically I just wanna go somewhere near the chicago area where I can legally race with friends, strangers or just against the clock. I tried googling dragstrips in the chicago area but I couldn't find what I was looking for. Anyone know of any places like this, or any website that might have a...

Where did you practice?

You had to practice somewhere.
So where was it?
Parking lots?
Open streets?
Or are there special tracks near most big cities for people like me?
I live in the Chicago area btw.

Subarus are notorious for having really notchy gear boxes. you can feel every bit of what's going on when you shift in my car, especially with my short shifter. I will vouch for that! But about the grinding from 1st to 2nd, I've had that a few times. It doesn't happen regularly and I don't think I ...

First time driving my friends to lunch in my new car. Stall in the middle of a left turn as the light turns yellow. People who's light just turned green are pissed as hell. The other guy behind me who was waiting to get by on the yellow is pissed as hell. My friends in the car are laughing their ass...

Well this is actually more towards the topic of accelerating after the launch... but when shifting, when you're trying to go as fast as possible, is it best to dump the clutch after the shift? I havn't tried this yet and I'm worried its gonna break something in my car. Also is dumping better or wors...

Clutchless Shifting

I've been driving stick shift now for just over 3 months, and I recently started thinking about something the guy who taught me to drive said. He said he sometimes shifts without the clutch. What I was wondering is how to do this (without breaking my car). Also, if done correctly, how much extra str...
