I Musk Tell You: That Elon is A Regular Chameleon

PLUG IT IN, PLUG IT IN - Autoline Daily As we now famously know, Tesla was part of the SAE committee that developed the standard for EV electrical connectors, J1772, but it then went out and came up with its own plug design so no one else could use its charging stations. Well, that sort of thing is...

Re: You Gotta Beef Wit Dat?

Probably just trying to cut corners to sqeeze out some more profit which seems to be the order of the day. VW cut a few corners with their diesel emission scandal, paid a fine or Two and life goes on for them. This is different and definitively not OK. The diesel scandal skirted a regulatory requir...

I think the USA only got the automated manual, but there was a non-shunned Amish version sold to the folks South of the border in Canada....and in other markets I'm sure.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I'd still rather see the SUV (and sometimes pickup) category NOT be the gratuitous default for the general market with everything else being weird, but que sera sera. "Que Sera, Sera" When I was just a little calf I asked my mother cow What will I drive Will it be sporty Will it be trucky...

I personally would try to steer her toward a larger sedan like an Accord, Passat or Mazda 6 (all three offer good lease deals). I wouldn’t put down more than 1500 on a lease though. If there's gonna be any "Steering" on this site, don't you think that theholycow should be doing the steeri...

Re: Wow, that must be some bike!

I always found it unsettling that Chrysler cars of the muscle care era had torsion bars for front springs. Somehow if a coil spring breaks the car would still have some support, so it seems, but if the torsion bar snaps, it is just going to drop, no? But apparently it worked, and I understand the f...

Re: Wow, that must be some bike!

Actually, the steel in a helical coil spring is stressed in torsion as well.....but the steel in a torsion spring, not to be confused with a torsion bar spring, is stressed in bending, like the stress in a leaf spring.

How many of you knew that the old Honda 450 had no valve springs? It was overhead cam (DOHC IIRC). Instead it used torsion bars for valve closure.

So, there were springs, just no helical compression springs.

Re: Everything you NEVER Wanted to Know About Stop/Start

Coaster, Amish Stop/start won't shut off the engine unless the trans is in neutral and the clutch engaged. With the engine off, it will restart when the clutch pedal is burried or if the battery voltage is getting to be lower than some setpoint. GM bought back Chevrolets with the coppercooled engine...
