Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I just got a $185k loan for an apartment. The bank offered to somehow put it on my account to wait for the contract signing. After seeing an Audi RS6 today (with two child seats!), I decided I'd rather have the bank send the money directly to the seller's bank. I'm so bad with temptations... :>

Re: Winter Driving

Considering that it's possible to launch pretty much any car on second gear, I would just forget shifting to first in such situation unless the car comes to a complete stop.

Not anytime soon. He just called that the apartment he was going to buy was sold, so he can't sell his current place yet.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

My coworker is offering his 430 sqft flat for sale: first floor, one bedroom and combined kitchen/living room, own sauna, small terrace and separate storage room. It's in a price-regulated housing project built in 2012, so it's cheaper than what the same would cost in free market. So, next week I'm ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Hey, how about them Politics? Can't talk - having a crisis meeting where everyone is crying because Trump is a muslim and the antichrist, and it's the end of the world as we know it... In other news, thanks to the global warming being a hoax invented by the Chinese, the ST is buried in a huge pile ...

Re: What happened to this place?

I'm having motivational issues and a Ford ASBO, so I haven't been around on the forum that much. I burp up something on the IRC channel from time to time, though.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Yes, we do get ice. Helsinki, which lies on the southern coast of Finland, is about as far north as Anchorage. You can use studless winter tires ("friction tires", as we call them) or all-season tires as well, but you have to use winter-rated tires with a tread depth of at least 3 mm betwe...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

3rd in a row? No....last two winters were hell in michigan at least. I know. If I recall correctly, last year the industries around the Great Lakes lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of ice whereas in the Baltic Sea, which has the largest combined fleet of icebreakers in the world to guar...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Do you suppose it's a little early to call winter off? Probably and quite likely. However, long-term predictions are leaning towards a very mild winter, the third one in the row. I'm really looking forward to the discussion in the media during the spring as our new $150 million icebreaker is nearin...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

One of my winter tires seems to be leaking. There's still some tread and studs left, and I can't afford a new set, but since the winter seems to be cancelled anyway, I guess I'm fine with topping it up once in a while. Nevertheless, I could have done without this issue as well. The car's turning out...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Yeah, should've rotated after 5,000 km. Curse the laziness...

The other car needs attention as well. It has only one button - the rear window heater switch - and it has broken down. Finding a replacement is easier said than done, but luckily there's a company that stocks spares for old Fords.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I just finished changing winter tires (17" rims, boo, hiss) to the Focus. There was no need to mark which tires have been in the front and which ones in the back - there was 3-4 mm difference in tread depth. I guess next spring I have to break my "better tires go to the back" traditio...

Re: Spare me the Excuses!

The ST doesn't have a spare tire - there's no space under the trunk. Last summer, when I drove to Norway and back, I took one of my winter tires as a spare just in case.

Few shots of my 3600-kilometre camping trip to Tromsö in northern Norway, far above the Arctic circle. At one point, I accidentally drove my ST to Sweden. It's not that often that you get to say that... http://koti.kapsi.fi/tromu/forum/trom1.jpg http://koti.kapsi.fi/tromu/forum/trom2.jpg http://koti...
