Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
[Nerdy factoid alert.] CarFax provides only a partial picture of a car's history, as others have noted. In fact, CarFax itself modified their TV ads in the wake of a June 2013 complaint by the Better Business Bureau (National Advertising Division). In one of the ads at issue, a used car seller tries...

Re: Notchy Gearbox
Others on this forum are much more knowledgeable than I am, but I'll venture to guess that the notchiness is unrelated to rev matching. I say that because (if I understand correctly) you are noticing a difference in shift feel while the clutch pedal is fully depressed - i.e., before you have started...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Is Finland one of those countries where you need to drive stick in order to get an unrestricted driver's license? If you take the test with a car fitted with an automatic transmission, you're not allowed to drive vehicles with manual transmission. I don't know how it works for truck license (>3500 ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Manual transmissions are more common. In the past, slushboxes were quite rare in Finland, but nowadays around 20-25% of new cars are sold with an automatic transmission as prices have come down, reliability and durability have improved, and fuel economy is approaching that of manual transmission. H...

Re: Coupes and sedans - why?
There's a 3-Series wagon in my parking garage just like yours (but in silver), with stick and X-drive. The combination of manual, AWD, and hatch is unbeatable.

That's a pretty wide swath, but maybe try Moody Street in Waltham. Lots of good options there, not too far from 128.DrJerryrigger wrote:@bostonfit (I don't know if that does anything...might not be the right SN anyway). Anyway, I'm going to Randolph for work tomorrow, know any good food off 128 between 2 and 24?

Tups - I see that you're from Finland. Do most cars there have manual or automatic transmission?

A solid national brand (a macro-microbrew, if you will) is Anchor Steam from San Fran.

Holycow : Based on your list of preferred beers, I think you would like Pilsner Urquell from the Czech Republic. It has a flavor that is light but also complex, with a lovely aroma and color to boot. It is widely available in New England, so you should have no problem finding it either in bottles o...

Yes - I live essentially, but not technically, in Boston. (Near two T stations, a quarter-mile from the Boston city line, and a 20-minute jog from Back Bay, but in a neighboring municipality.)DrJerryrigger wrote:Thanks, based on your sn I'm guessing by eastern you mean inside the 128 belt, not lower cape.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Is there something about the new(er) HVLP (sp?) painting processes which make black, silver, and white easier to paint? Or, is that actually what the market demands? The colors you see are the colors that buyers want. I like gray because it flies under the radar. It's not the most exciting choice, ...
