Re: What's Your Shifting Algorithm?
So, I gotta ask: Is your gear ratio set up so that, at 2500 RPM you're: 20kph @ 1st 40kph @ 2nd 60kph @ 3rd 80kph @ 4th 100kph @ 5th? Checked this on my drive to get lunch, at your first four points / gears I'm at 3000 RPM (I didn't wind it up to 100 because it's local streets and 80 was pushing it...

Re: Winter is just around the corner: A preview
winter is coming
Will actually be my first winter with stick / with my new car. Might actually be for the best I wasn't always great at managing 240 lbft torque going through the front wheels at like 2000 RPM.
Any 'gotchas' that I might not expect?

Re: What's Your Shifting Algorithm?
I tend to shift 'when it feels right' - which is more or less at 15-20 from first to second, 40-45 to third, 60-65 to fourth, and 85 to fifth. I might shift a bit 'earlier' if I know I've got clear sailing ahead and can take advantage of the lower RPM for fuel economy, but as most of my power is at ...

Re: 2015 Honda Fit announced
If you give it a 6th gear it'll lose its ability to pass people without the need to downshift. . I've found that if theyre goign slow enough that I need to pass them and am already at their speed (merging etc), I'll still need to go down to 4th if I want to pass them with any kind of urgency. I'm u...

Re: Fit but you know it (2013 Fit Sport)
the engine was great, the total cost of ownership not so much. VW likes their dollars. That is exactly what a mechanic once told me about VW's - good engines, but everything else is troublesome. I can't speak from personal experience, having never owned a VW. $1100 to replace failed fan blower that...

Re: 2015 Honda Fit announced
Currently the Canadian-market fits are made in China, so Mexico would be a step up. (there have been some rust problems with Chinese Fits) My initial impressions are it looks too 'Ford-y' - I can't rationalize why I think that but I get "American automaker" vibes off of its body style. Tha...

Re: Fit but you know it (2013 Fit Sport)
On the Mass Pike they have the worst signs. ''25 miles 23 minutes to I-495'' I mean it's helpful but sometimes it doesn't really mean anything. Another one: Getting onto I-95 from Route 2 in Lexington MA, there is a sign that says "I-95 Gloucester/Attleboro." As compass points, those two ...

Yeah, would regularly get 40+ MPG highway without trying particularly hardBoston Fit wrote:Doesn't everyone use base 10?rei wrote:Us and our audacity to use base 10 units : )
But getting back on topic, I'm surprised you got better mileage in your old Jetta than in your Fit. Was it a diesel Jetta?

Realistically though I'm being a bit facetious - I'd likely pick the corolla though largely due to being insecure about being defined by my possessions.

That said I'm only on my second tank and during break-in... plus it's just reported numbers from the dash right now as opposed to measuring it through fuelly or similar, I'm taking a long drive to Chalk River Ontario then Ottawa then back home to the Greater Toronto Area in the first week of august...

Re: Got a new car
True, I think of Honda's Fit as the true successor to the old Civic hatch Having planned on buying a Civic and ending up with a Fit, I made the same conclusion one thing in temrs of 'interior space' - I'm 6'5 and my head in the civic was very thoroughly inside the sunroof on the Civic (legroom was ...

Re: Mechanical Car Washes
I pay for the auto washes pretty often, once a season I'll get it hand-washed, and at the end of winter I'll pay to get it detailed / waxed.
