Re: The MPG thread

Over 30 around town, all stop and go with plenty of hills and not the best MT skills. I hardly ever go on the freeway but when I do it seems to get around 38-40. Now that the Fit is getting broken in the MPG is creeping upward. I saw where gas prices are expected to go up quite a bit, maybe even clo...

1,6XX. :) I have to invent excuses to go out and drive around since I don't work anymore, either.

Good commercial! I like how her clothes and tattoo reflect elements of the Abarth design.

Re: Its starting to become second nature.

Driving shoes are amazing. I switched to them a couple years ago and now they're all I ever wear. I invite you to read through my review of the Pilotis I still wear daily: http://www.standardshift.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11947 Haha, that is a great review RITmusic2k! Thanks and I will be...

Re: Its starting to become second nature.

ever try driving without anything on your feet?? i think that would be easy in the fit (light pedals i assume) and it's a more direct connection with the pedals (you feel what's going on down there much more). Yes, stocking feet is essentially barefoot. I don't wear the sandals while in the car. Th...

Re: Nearly 90,000 Minis Recalled for Fire Hazard

I read months ago there had been reports of spontaneous fires...one reason I did not choose a MINI. :|

Nearly 90,000 Minis Recalled for Fire Hazard

http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01 ... re-hazard/

After an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mini is recalling almost 89,000 of its turbocharged models because they could catch fire when the engine is off.

Re: Its starting to become second nature.

After 5 weeks I am still driving in my stocking feet. This means I am wearing backless sandals even in winter so they they are easy to slip on and off, but I don't mind. I enjoy driving this way. I also do not have the radio on for now so I can listen to the car. They do make special thin-soled &quo...

Re: Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

Thank you Shadow. Yeah, it definitely feels like I am rolling back quite a bit. I am still very shaky confidence-wise with hills. I have tried the technique you describe of getting near the engagement point before releasing the brake and have had some success with it, but nowhere near perfect. Still...

Re: Fiat 500

Fascinating photos! I have seen several of the Fiats around here and they are pretty dang small. Looking at them, I might feel a bit claustrophobic in one. They definitely strike me as smaller than the MINIs, which are everywhere here. The Abarth sounds too awesome for words, but personally I would ...

Re: Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

Another great thread. Congrats on the car, blauenlanze! As a newbie to the MT I found what theholycow said to be true: It sounds like you have the problem with handbrake launches that I had when I was starting out, where the handbrake was just one more variable to consider, one more movement to coor...

Re: New Features and Products Survey

If text only is ok, you can have your own custom window decal made here (and a variety of other places): http://www.decaldriveway.com/product/display/id/cus004 It is not expensive for a smallish one. There are also places that will make a text custom license plate frame. I had one once and it didn't...

Re: New from Maryland

I don't know what I am getting next. Was looking at VWs and Nissans. Some cars are "manual mode" which seems like fake manual to me. My perfect car would have some luxury and technology without being huge or BMW-priced. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. Have you looked ...

Re: New from Georgia

Welcome, mshanno1! Please make use of the resources and advice given on this forum (such as that by Rope-Pusher, above). I found it invaluable in learning to drive my MT. I would say "good luck", but it really is a matter of practice making perfect...let us know how you do! :)
