My Jeep's deer impact repairs have been completed and I will get a ride down to A-Squared and pick it up on Monday!
Nice! As much as unexpected repairs suck, getting a vehicle back in better shape (hopefully) than it was previously is always a nice feeling.

Re: Winter Driving

That might explain it. Could be a similar situation to the generic advice for saving gas by being light on the go-pedal...sure, that's one easy way that doesn't require thought/study/practice, but there are more effective techniques that sometimes involve heavy throttle. You mean the Prius drivers ...

Re: Fiesta Frustrations

I realized I never gave a follow up to this issues. I'm guessing the problem was the sensors losing their marbles for some reason. They did not get bumped or moved (basically impossible because of position) but from what I've picked up talking to other people, the car went into the safety mode to at...

Re: Winter Driving

Yeah, none of that is news to me (hence why I said "with less torque to the tires, but either way it's far more torque than is needed to lose traction"). I guess maybe it can be useful if you have a gutless wonder with no torque, where cutting available torque by that much is enough to ma...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I'm alive. I've been checking in periodically, just not posting anything. Life was a bit insane this past semester (that just ended). I will be glad when I no longer have to balance school and work full time. In like... 2.5 to 3 years. Sigh. I did pass with fine grades, though. So I guess that's goo...

Re: Winter Driving

(I'm alive) What RP said. If you look at it from the physics side, you want to keep the friction so that your wheels don't spin because if they do, the friction point is lower once they are already moving. Yes, you have less precise control because you're in second, but less torque means that it's ...

Re: Fiesta Frustrations

Seriously? One for intake and one for exhaust, then? Yeah - sometimes, it lets them get better angles on the valves so the ports flow more.... It also lets you put in a variable valve timing difference between the intake and exhaust cams, to spread the torque curve flatter. RP is correct. It does h...

Anyone else get locked out of the site and have to reset their password? It was very odd, password I've been using the whole time here (rote memory typing by this point) no longer worked.

Re: Fiesta Frustrations

I'm going to attempt to inspect all of the sensors and applicable wiring. However, it seems very difficult to find a service manual for the thing... or even a wiring diagram. Chilton and Haynes don't seem to have one. My dad is checking on http://www.alldatadiy.com (I didn't know about this one) but...

Yeah, they are kind of linked because the history really does help give a better explanation as to the design.

But they were both interesting. So I linked them both.

Re: Clutch Smell???

Don't worry about it. It's normal paranoia. It was probably leftover smell from a dumptruck that stopped short a few minutes before. You passed through a cloud of stank and smelled it. Even if it was clutch smell, you did some abnormally hard acceleration in a brand new car...it's bound to smell a ...
