Re: Mishift from DC. How bad.

what others said, you're probably fine. :D you do mean DC rev matched, do you? I would avoid dumping the clutch at the second release of the clutch, do a fast controlled release until you get comfy with it. Get it really fast to around the middle of FP zone, if you're close in your rev match, things...

Re: Need help diagnosing 1>2 shift diagnosis

there are 2 things in this: 1) the change brought about by the extra weight of the passenger, that will modify the momentum of your car, hence your timing and your clutch 'full engagement' point (higher up in the friction zone) 2) what THC and Scionkid said: Either -don't accelerate so hard in 1st o...

Re: Shifting quickly vs Shifting smoothly

being smooth with a manual is a series of trade-offs that you combine together to get the best of each. Will make you smoother, and more likely 'smooth' than usual. 1) where in the acceleration curve you step on the clutch (this one is on its own, no combination to other actions) a) timing of releas...

Re: Clutch/Throttle See-Saw Motion

Problems with 1->2 shifts: Initiating the shift: 1) too early off the gas before stepping on the clutch> car is already engine braking heavily (decelerating) and it jolts forward when you step on the clutch ***ease off the gas a little before stabbing the clutch pedal, don't just get off the gas. 2)...

Re: Uphill Launches Without Handbrake

that's going into the domain of heel-toeing, which I don't think was part of the equation. Hill launching without the parking brake assumes you can hold the car on the hill with the clutch while transiting from brake pedal to gas pedal, or are my assumptions wrong? are we talking of hill-toe...

Re: Uphill Launches Without Handbrake

You could also try an Audi A6L with a 2.0T engine. Before the Turbo kicks in at around 1500rpm, you don't have any torque at all!! that thing is so heavy it won't no gas launch, it won't be held on a hill with the clutch.

Having a 3rd leg definitely helps when driving a stick shifter up the hill.

Re: Uphill Launches Without Handbrake

As Scion said, not every car can be held still on a hill at FP. Some cars are just too heavy for the engine they are fitted with, and/or, have too low a torque at idle/low rpms.
Some cars can't even be no gas launched in a reasonable time, just like no gas launching in 3rd.

Re: Uphill Launches Without Handbrake

if you don't have enough low end torque and you have throttle lag at low rpms, you don't have much choice but to use the parking brakes.

Never had the need to ever use the parking brakes for hill launches with my car or any cars I have driven, but I can see how it would be needed.

Depends how much low end torque you got.

Re: need some clearing up regarding clutch and gas

both ways are fine and as right as each other. One thing though, with the first method, with the typically prevalent throttle lag due to DBW, you want to wait a tad on the clutch at that 'catch' point, before starting to release it further. Wait for the car to react to the gas you added, for the car...

Re: How to stay consistant after every shift.

Accepting stalls when they occur, and dealing calmly and confidently with the situation after a stall is what you should practice, more so than avoiding a stall. The less you fear them, the less they will occur. I know many experienced stick drivers who will never launch below 1500 rpm or higher, I ...

Re: How to stay consistant after every shift.

LoL  I know that every year, when summer begins and it gets stuffy in my car, when I turn the air con on and go for my usual low rpm launches, I will stall a few times until my subconscious response re-adapts to the change in situation. Upshifts will get bumpy again too, with air-con on, rpms a...

Re: How to stay consistant after every shift.

after the required mileage, when you think you would be through with the learning and smooth enough for your expectation, you'll get 4 passengers in your car, or you'll turn the air con on, and your newly acquired smoothness will go out the window :P you will buck and stall again. reasonable s...
