Re: I hate this car
It's probably a lot more like the 5MT that was in my 2008 Rabbit, which, on paper, had an overdrive or two...but in reality its ultra-short final drive meant it ran out of gears by the time I got to 25mph and I wanted ten more gears if they must be so short and so closely-spaced. Power was plentiful...

Re: When 5 gears just aren't enough
The clutch brake stops the clutch disc while it's disengaged so that you can get into Reverse or 1st with the vehicle stopped and engine running. Don't forget, there are no synchros. When you step on the clutch pedal the clutch disc continues spinning from inertia after it has disengaged from the sp...

Interesting. Glad to see they're building a manufacturing plant in the US and spinning up some kind of production.
Does this mean they might work their way up to finally selling their small-diesel powered heavy duty smallish pickup for street use?

That reminds me...I gotta lube my patio door before it freezes closed again. It was 60F overnight, down to 34F now, and it'll be 9F in a few hours. Door was frozen shut and I couldn't use it for weeks.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Vaseline on the rubber gasket. Lots of wax or Rain-X on the sheet metal/glass, especially where the trouble ice is. You can certainly lubricate the latches. Graphite powder dry lube (sold next to the key-making machine at the hardware store) is good in locks or anywhere that is dry and must remain s...

http://allofftopic.com/images/smilies/yup.gif If you're dead-set on always driving a brand new car then no, I guess you can't select for those features while cutting the price in a major way...but scale the newness back a little and you're good to go. Also try to open your mind to things you may ha...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
VW GTI - It's actually broken. Not broken enough to not drive but my gauge cluster is a Christmas tree. Error messages from MIB are reading "Error: ESC / Error: TPMS System". ESC definitely is not working as the roads have been treacherous. Tire pressure in all the tires are a consistent ...

Re: Winter Tars
i thought you're supposed to overinflate them to help narrow the contact patch and do other magical stuff. :?: It doesn't narrow the contact patch (unless you go to ridiculous levels like 200psi), it shortens the contact patch, whose width will remain the same as tread width but total area w...

Re: Winter Tars
Mine have been on since Octubre and have seen some muck. I still don't like them, but am curious of there's a rule of thumb for tire pressure. Should they be plumped higher or lower in terms of pressure than all-seasons? Thinking I could get better results by adjusting the pressure downward (curren...

Re: Winter Tars
Can we go back to calling them "snow tires" now? They're designed for winter weather conditions in wintery places; they're made for snow and ice traction. I know everybody loves to talk about grip on dry pavement in cold temperatures, but ferchrissake any crappy worn-bald tire (no-season, ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Carbon fiber will be fine for the bed in 1500 models, most of which don't see any hauling beyond groceries, and most of which end up with bedliners before they even haul one loaf of bread. Anyway CF is no slouch (much stronger than fiberglass) and I bet they're laying it on thick. It seems like it w...
