I personally wouldn't go into second at 5 mph... I would use first and ease it back in with a little gas kind of like when you are taking off from a stop, only you are already moving. It takes a little practice, but you will get it!

I've never had a tach... I learned by feel and sound. I don't really ever want a tach either.
