Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

If you're trying to start from a stop on ice, you've actually lost once the wheels start spinning. The most traction you have available is before the wheels start spinning. You'll probably just dig yourself a divot after that. If you're spinning and haven't gotten the car moving at all, just put th...

That xkcd is great for anyone who has to troubleshoot.

And you got called out by a completely new person on not answering, moofasa! Welcome, ben94122, way to lurk for an unreasonably long amount of time

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

would it be feasible to have actual mobile mechanics. people who come to your house, diagnose and fix simple things - starters, thermostats, change oil, etc. obviously not more complicated things like struts, engines, transmissions, etc Coincidentally, there was a dude that showed up at my neighbor...

Re: What happened to this place?

Hi guys! Yeah, it's quiet here - in the last month there have been a few newcomers with questions, but THC and RP usually have the responses handled by the time I check in... so I haven't been commenting nearly as much either. We're probably all in a similar boat - still enthusiastic, but otherwise...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

wannabe, what RP said. Cold isn't good for mechanical things almost across the board. Across the board, almost all of the normal electronics and metals that we use for things perform worse once you get that far below freezing. Think of your phone battery deciding to lose 20% by being out in the cold...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Well. Novel length posts all around. Welcome to the board! Cow, I think one of the reasons people stand by the idea of "in gear or out of control" is that if memory serves, some European countries required being in gear or on the brake in their driving test. Other than down long hills, I d...

Re: jerk free shifts

Sorry to sound dumb, but what's dialing it in mean lol? It's slang for "refining to perfection" and is in general usage, not specific to automotive contexts. You may occasionally encounter it elsewhere. Agree with Moofasa on the definition, I wonder how that phrase originated? Radio dials...

Re: BEER THREAD!

I'm a cheap drinker. I rarely buy out because it's more expensive than buying and drinking at home.

Granted, with the amount I drink, Watkins covers my monthly budget for it in like one meal.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Woohoo! Vacation booked for next month. Skipping a real vacation last year was a terrible idea Tahiti or Sydney? Can I be your carryon? Cruising out of Miami for a week. My baggage situation is tricky because we are flying down to Miami on standby because my mother-in-law works for Jetblue. Otherwi...

Re: Windows 10 nonsense

Windows 7 forever. Swear I'll never upgrade. You can't turn off the privacy invasion completely, they track your data and usage, track programs and hardware you have installed (and can prevent you from installing certain things), can push ads to the start menu and w/e, it just isn't worth it. Its b...

Re: Just a couple of cars I saw lately

I saw an old Bentley over the weekend that I managed to snag a couple of pictures of while it was parked. I'll upload them sometime in the next day or two and maybe someone can identify the approximate year/model. Right hand drive and everything! *waits*  my bad. I'll see if I can find t...

Re: RomPirate's new car

I've been taking a closer look at the Mazdaspeed3 (1st gen) or Madza3 (hatchback only). They seem to fit my needs and the bill. Not sure if the speed would be worth the premium seeing as my GO foot is ehhh... light. Anyone have one? :) i've never had one (did drive johnf's 1st gen 3i once though - ...

You are correct. Simultaneously more durable and more fragile than one would expect.

Oh, and be prepared to be late to everything. It's impossible to get a child ready on time for anything.

Happy new year you peoples. I've been crazy busy. Last couple weeks of school, busy weeks at work, out of town for vacation (visited Chicago - it was unseasonably warm and nice), and life have kept me away. I'm still around.

Re: Spare me the Excuses!

Wow. I thought free repairs were limited to plugging tread punctures. Did they have to dismount, remount, and balance? No idea. It seems to drive fine. I literally don't even have paperwork to show for it. Though I guess I could call and get a copy of what they did if I were curious. Also holds air...
