Re: My puny race
I can whomp, eat alive, and spit out a 2008 civic Si from a roll with my Saab. They are NOT torquey engines those vtec (why???). Where as my humble, old school, inline 4 with but a humbler turbo, cranks max torque from 2100rpm to 4.5k. This why it need be from a roll, because any feisty throttle action yields melted rubber. YAY torque.
I need a torquey engine-it is a must.
I don't like " VEEEE TAK" because of all the "vTAK" fanboys and stickered up ricers!
I'm sure it is great engine, cutting edge and all, but no fo me..

Bah, you're not launching right then. Feather the clutch on the launch so that you get barely any wheelspin. That yields the best launch.watkins wrote:Wheelhop all the way through 1st sucksCm452 wrote:This why it need be from a roll, because any feisty throttle action yields melted rubber. YAY torque.

Re: My puny race
Or the fact that I have 194 ftlbs of torque and el-cheapo tires on at the moment would have something to do with it. Feathering the clutch will get me nowhere, unless you count burning through my clutch an accomplishment. The solution is not to jam the loud pedal down. I have to roll on the gas all the way to WOT

Hah, lucky. Wish I had enough kick to have to lay off the throttle a bit.watkins wrote:Or the fact that I have 194 ftlbs of torque and el-cheapo tires on at the moment would have something to do with it. Re: My puny race
Uh, no, if I have the car launch @ idle, then stomp it, it turn the fronts to nothing ASAP. I have the car moded, so I am pushing out probly 220ftlbs of torque @ 2100rpm. Boost hits really hard and really fast.
Unless i super short shift, there isn't really any way mitigate the wheel spin.
I have firestone all seasons-light 'em up in 3rd if it even thinks about being damp or cold. They are brand new BTW.

Re: My puny race
My tires are quite grippy in the wet. I can spin third if I spin through 2nd before that, and that was on all-seasons in the summer.

Re: My puny race
The tires on my car are 6 years old (IIRC) and you can't even spin first they have so much grip. Wet or dry. Dad's tried, it just just makes you part of the vinyl upholstery. (you do get a chirp from the tires though)
And on the topic of VTEC, lets put it this way.

Just click on it, it takes you to (a legit site, no spyware) where you can create your own.blauenlanze wrote:Hey, where'd you get that userbar? I remember I tried once but the usebar site sooned turned out to be spyware infested.

Re: My puny race
Nice pic, but as far as burning those tires out....bring up the revs just before redline and side step the clutch in 1st.1974Alfa5spd wrote:The tires on my car are 6 years old (IIRC) and you can't even spin first they have so much grip. If it doesn't burnout...you have zero 0 0 0 power.
