My first actual legit race, I raced a VW Fox. I'm fairly sure it was swapped because I'd never heard a Fox spin its' tires before.
He came racing up the hill behind me, so I mashed the loud pedal and got to the top first, he comes to a stop and I do a moderately aggressive launch in 2nd (On purpose). I proceed to hear *SCREEECH* coming from behind me and I look in the mirror and there's a little gray VW Fox. Come to the next stop sign, hit the brakes, slow down to a moderate roll, go to 2nd, do a hard-as-I-dare-without-toasting-the-clutch 2nd gear launch, and lo and behold, the Fox has launched again with a *SCREEECH* Wind up 2nd, 3rd, and am doing about 4k in 4th which is 55MPH up a 30MPH hill. He had to admit defeat by the time I was redlining 3rd because it was condensing down to 1 from 2 lanes. He put his hand out the window and pointed forward and then hit the brakes. Had it been a straight, flat, 2-lane road, he might've won with an almost certain higher top-end speed.

He could just bolt in a lift kit and throw some 33" tires on it - much more interesting than changing the ratio in the differential, but I guess that's just a matter of a pinion.LHOswald wrote:4k@55mph in 4th? jesus i thought my truck had high gearing...

Just remember which gear is "low gear" and which gear is "high gear", and you'll never make the mistake of saying the wrong word.

Try running lighter springs in the distributor.LHOswald wrote:by a numbers perspective, the gear ratio numbers would be high. thats how i looked at it. i haven't slept in like 40 hours so im a rittle letarded
