with a blower youll tear up your 7.5 axle to shreds like yesterday. you gonna want a 8.8 for any serious power, 7.5 is too weak to be reliable in a supercharged car driven by a 17 year old.
auburn posi is almost 100 dollars cheaper than a truetrac, and look at getting some used gears, they are cheaper and it makes no difference.
but with a blower, the 7.5 will be a ticking time bomb.

the 7.5's are good to around 250-300hp. but of course, if I were to put a blower on it, I'd be driving it like an asshole pretty much all the time, and I'd probably break something.hockeystyx16 wrote:with a blower youll tear up your 7.5 axle to shreds like yesterday. you gonna want a 8.8 for any serious power, 7.5 is too weak to be reliable in a supercharged car driven by a 17 year old.

If I did, I'd probably get a complete axle from a GT, and then just take it to the shop and have them swap oout the diff and gears, and then just swap the axles out. Probably cheaper labor if all they have to mess with is the axle, they could put it on a table or something and it would be much easier.
Of course I'd love a freaking cobra IRS swap, then I'd be all over modding my car, but that's pretty extreme.

yeah, its awesome. and if you had a 8.8 laying around, you could probably trade a cobra guy for his IRS, they want live axles for drag, and we want IRS for handling. im thinking 8.8 and 150 cash for the IRS would be a good trade
then you get to rock those tailpipes on a roundbody for everyone to see and drool over

+1. Big wheels are bad for drag racing, not just because of (relatively) higher weight, but also because of stiffer sidewalls. You want soft sidewalls for better launches.AHTOXA wrote:Remember, those 19 inch wheels he has are probably heavy as hell.
Heavy wheels/tires make a huuuuge difference. I remember in my early offroading days I stepped up a tire size and could feel it being a little more sluggish overall with worse MPG due to added unsprung weight/rotational mass.
If the eclipse was an RS or GS with the NA engine, it should have been a slaughter. If it was a GS-T or GSX with the turbo engine, he should have given you a run for your money.
Either way, good kill.

More aggressive gears don't make your car (much) faster, but they sure are fun to drive!eaglecatcher wrote:I don't want to fork over 900 bucks for that mod if I'm not gonna do anything else... I"m not gonna get a TLok, that with a few clutch dumps and I'll have it broken in a heartbeat. I'd go with a detroit tru trac, which itself is 400 bucks, plus 200 for gears and install kit, plus 300 for install labor, thats nearly a grand right there...hockeystyx16 wrote:boost drops panties
get some damn 4.10s already. your grandma cruiser gear is killing your car.
however, if I were gonna supercharge it, then I'd totally do that 1st. Actually, I'd plan to do it all right around the same time so I'd quit my pants the first time I floored it
I've heard good things about the Detroit Tru Trac, but I'd still avoid it if you plan to take turns on a regular basis. A regular LSD like the Auburn is the best fit for most people. And you might as well do gears while you're in there. Just make sure that the shop knows what they're doing... Not too many shops are really that good at setting up the gears, so they'll whine more than they need to.
And if you're blowing that sucker, to be honest, I'd hold off on putting any money in that axle. Why? Because if you catch traction, that thing's gonna blow anyways, and you really don't need another $2000 bill for an 8.8 axle right after you just spent gobs on getting that blower.
