Nice. Unfortunately studs and chains are illegal in Minnesota. I'm not sure if they're illegal in skin bars though.theholycow wrote:Bump.

Re: Winter Tires
The weather here has been absolutely beautiful but I'm feeling very superstitious. I'm 99% sure I actually control the weather. If I put my all-season tires back on before April 15 when I can't legally drive on studs anymore, the 75°F sunny weather will disappear and we'll get whacked with 2 feet of snow.
So, in the meantime, I'm driving on winter tires in what is essentially summer weather. Man, when the weather gets over 70°F they stick to the road like glue! My commute is severely lacking in opportunities to test the limit so I haven't had enough chances to grow the balls to find said limit, but I swear this old boat is sticking to the road like a race car.
I know those sipes are supposed to make the tread too squirmy but I guess the soft compound matters more. When they wear too much for winter use the studs are coming out and they become my summer tires.

Re: Winter Tires
Nice idea, but no holes for studs...I'd rather have studs AND "snow claws".

I wonder if they make tires with sandy claws for driving on dunes?theholycow wrote:Nice idea, but no holes for studs...I'd rather have studs AND "snow claws".

I still have my Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5's, and I'm quite happy with them. Too bad most of the winter has been snow-less. I haven't checked the groove depth, but it might be that the tires won't see next winter...

If you're driving 190 on winter tires you got some issues to say the least.

Re: Winter Tires
Meh. You put them on for 5 or more months in which there can be a variety of weather, you get one nice week and the Autobahn is clear...whaddya gonna do, jack it up in the yard and change them out or do you get out there and drive?

Re: Winter Tires
I think the top speed of my car is around 180 kph and the fastest I've gone on the winter tires this year is about 160. However, here you can't use tires that are rated for lower speed than the top speed of your car even if you're never going up to those speeds.monkeyhunk wrote:If you're driving 190 on winter tires you got some issues to say the least.
