Post your speed in top gear at 3000 RPM

Post by Shadow »

Thought this might be an interesting topic. Next time you're doing some highway driving, bring your car up to 3000 RPM in its top gear and post the indicated speed that you're driving. I'll start:

Audi A5: 6th gear @ 3000 RPM = 91 MPH

Fiesta: 3000 RPM - 5th gear = ~65 mph.

70 mph is around 7200-7300 RPM if memory serves.

That's gotta be a typo, no? Did you mean 3200-3300 RPM?

If memory serves me right 3000rpm in 5th for my Impreza is right on about 115 km/h which is about 71 mph.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Why yes, yes I did mean 3200-3300. Silly sinus infection-brain hasn't been working quite right all day.

The other thread, I figured out that 3000 RPM is 68 mph according to ratios.

I don't have a tach, but I looked on a gear ratio calculator, it's about 67mph in 5th gear.

This is from memory, but 6th @3000rpm ~= 81mph. Will try to confirm later.

2001 Ranger 2.3L would be 80 mph at 3000 because it is about 2650 at 70 mph.

My former truck, a 4.9L F150 5MT, ran 2050 at 70 mph and so would have to be going about 100 mph to get to 3000 rpm.

Now I can tell you that if I take 1st gear in the Ranger out to about 5000 rpm it's around 30+ mph, and fun!
