So I've been thinking of getting another car...again
I kind of enjoy bouncing some ideas around and seeing what people come up with. Plus I think this part of the forum needs some activity.
I've been kind of thinking of swapping a manual into something lately. Ever since I drove cow's Buick. However, the only platform I'm really interested in would be a Crown Vic. I really like how cheap they are, comfortable and availability of parts. Though the clutch is a bit harder.
I've also been interested in a couple of other options such as an 04-06 TL, perhaps even a Saab 9-5. I'd like to get something a bit bigger than my Civic with a bit more comfort.
Any thoughts?

It was a lot easier in the olden daze when we just filled our moufs wiff gasoline and spit it out at the hole in the intake manifold. Oh, and we made sparks wiff flint-n-steel.

Its not getting a tune that's the hard part. It's just the price. I should inquire about the price some day.

Well, this is probably not what you had in mind, but when you said "Cown Vic" and "swap", the only thing that ever comes to mind is a Terminator-swapped Vic. What a nasty, nasty sleeper that makes.

I think Ford said you'd have to cut a crash brace to make it work but I've since seen conversions done on all three generations from 88-02, including the Cobra Vics Roush made for Bondurant to use as instructor cars.
Tuning isn't cheap but probably not that tricky. There would be a lot of crossover with Mustangs. If you leave it otherwise stock I'd think all you'd need would be to set the computer to ignore the lack of transmission inputs and outputs so it wouldn't light the check engine light.

Are you talking about the Terminator swap?IMBoring25 wrote:I think Ford said you'd have to cut a crash brace to make it work but I've since seen conversions done on all three generations from 88-02, including the Cobra Vics Roush made for Bondurant to use as instructor cars.
Yeah, they do have a tune already out by blue oval chips. Pretty much does that.IMBoring25 wrote:I

So much money lol. Even a 5 speed I think people would be surprised at.AHTOXA wrote:Well, this is probably not what you had in mind, but when you said "Cown Vic" and "swap", the only thing that ever comes to mind is a Terminator-swapped Vic. What a nasty, nasty sleeper that makes.

No, the Cobra Vics didn't use the Terminator drivetrain. They got '99 Cobra drivetrains...No supercharger, puny 320 hp...

So basically the 5 speed from what I read didn't need the removal of a crash bar.
These motors made no horsepower. 250 for the Vic.

That 250HP figure is very conservative. It gets close to 250 to the wheels. Crown Vics move, make no doubt about it. For their size, they're quick. Trust me.

While it's no replacement for horsepower, don't forget that there is plenty of torque. The power is probably delivered over a wide range of RPM, not as peaky as other engines...and I bet there's plenty you can do to kick it up a bit.

These TLs, TSX and such are so expensive. Like 5500 for a car that has like 140k miles.potownrob wrote:1st gen TSX (or the cars you listed) FTW!!!!bk7794 wrote:I've also been interested in a couple of other options such as an 04-06 TL, perhaps even a Saab 9-5.
