I wound up chirping the tires after a 5000 rpm 1st gear downshift.
So you went from 4>1 accidentally with no clutch? Any grind? That one surprises me because I think my car locks me out of first above like 6 mph on a downshift.
I think I was clutching for part of it, but lost track and let up early. I was in 2nd and heading for 3rd, but found 1st in trying not to hit the sonofabicht.

Gotcha. Not good, but kind of glad I'm not the only one to have done.

If you hadn't, you'd be the only one not to have...

I don't think I've ever actually engaged a lower gear than I intended to, but I've intended to select grossly inappropriate gears when I'm used to a vehicle different than the one I'm driving.

Doing it once in a while won't do any excess damage. Just don't make a habit of it.
For my own sanity, did you have music on in your car and could you clearly hear the grind over that?
Yes I did. I also felt it. Felt horrible. Almost like a getting shocked, if you have gotten shocked before.

I remember once my friend was quick shifting his 07 Si. The engine was really loud and he just dumped it into second and it blocked him. All you heard was grinding. Even though the motor was really loud.

lol I remember when I drove my friends 1.0 ecoboost. I wasn't used to the absurdly long gears and I short shifted into 2nd and the thing made a horrible racket and bucking from the motor.

Been there, done that a handful of times over the years.

I don't know a single manual driver that has at least a few months behind the wheel of their car that hasn't done exactly that. Right of passage, if you will. Along with other dumb shit your car can handle just fine.

In fact, I tried doing it most recently on an upshift but caught myself in neutral. I chalked it up to the fact that I often upshift with no clutch on the motorcycle and my mind hasn't switched for some reason.

Upshifts, downshifts, they're all about the same.

Anyone here ever work dayshift, nightshift, and afternoonshift all in the same week? I was sure glad when work settled down to the same shift every day.

For me, it's always the same shift, different day.
