Leedeth, this is the first forum (and second time on this one) that I've ever had to adblock a sig pic. It was yours both times.

While i definitely vote against big big sigs, it would be nice to extend the sig limit. I’d like a line of linked text below my image, but can’t accomplish it with the current limit. But if policing would be too difficult i get why no change as been made.

200 pixel height would be a good limit. For reference, mine is 150

I want to add an image to mine, but I don't want to sacrifice the lulzy 10000 wangs quote either. :( I'm sure having both would be too big, and the character limit doesn't allow it anyway.

Most forums I'm on allow an image (or multiple images) up to 200x600, and have no (or very large) software-enforced text limit. This is the only forum I'm on that has no image size limit but has a worthlessly tiny text limit.

On other forums, my sig collects links to FAQs and threads I commonly send people to see.

Which is why I put that shit into an image. My sig IS an image. I just put text into it, and you could easily photochop that quote box into a transparent gif, add some text, bob's your uncle, there you go.

Which works for you. I personally think that aliased out text you have looks icky. So don’t mock the rest of us when we want a simpler solution. That and your solution doesn’t allow any more characters for linking text.

Let's see... in Urban Exploration Resource the limit is 3 lines of text and links, and colours, images etc. are not allowed. MuroBBS allows 4 lines with standard font or equivalent, but images are not allowed. FCBS Forum limits the signature to 5 lines, but images apart from emoticons are forbidden. The Finnish UE Forum doesn't have a rule, but if someone puts a image to his signature, I'll come up with one and enforce it. Maybe SS was a bit of a culture shock since I've gotten used to forums where signature images don't make up 75% of the total page height...

almost went into somebody's sig.

Put some restrictions in on size of image (700x200), boosted char length for text sig to 150. Haven't noticed too many oversized sigs, but if it becomes an issue again then, err, more will be done.

And why hadn't anything been done? Well, since most folks understand that huge sigs, images or text, take away from the actual postings. Just happened that one was restricted and the other was not.

Those are some forums I frequent that allow large limits on text (1000 characters, I think; they don't state it and I've never found out, even with dozens of FAQ links in my sig) but moderate limits on image size. On gmfullsize.com sometimes people's sigs get too long, taking up half a page or more (usually involving excessive pictures, large text, and blank lines), and then someone posts a thread like this and those sigs get cut down to reasonable size again.

We can throw examples back and forth all day, but I think it's mainly a matter of the default rules that come with forum software, and it seems that most automotive forums run on vBulletin (at least, the ones I'm on).

Sig limits would be a great step. As it is now, it's hard to follow the replies on this site, and there's no way I could ever view it while I'm at work due to, well, numerous giant pics that keep it looking anything but businesslike.

What browser do you use? You may be able to filter the pics out, to prevent them from showing while still displaying other pics.

I use Firefox 3.0.12. My inserting a pic of my car in my sig doesn't help my case either, lol.

Do you use Adblock Plus? Click Tools -> Adblock Plus Preferences -> Filters -> Add Filter and paste the address of each sig image. It will take a few minutes to setup and you'll have to update it when anyone changes their sig but it shouldn't be too awful.
