Should users have the option of viewing more posts per page,

Post by theholycow »

In viewtopic.php?t=11178 a user suggests the common option of customizing your forum viewing experience by showing more or fewer posts per page. Since people seem to feel strongly about it, why not a poll?

Advantages: Some users will enjoy seeing more or fewer posts per page.

Disadvantages: Users who change their setting from the default will have difficulty finding a post that's identified by its page number (like "check page 3 of this thread").

It won't have any significant effect on bandwidth, since this forum is pretty undemanding, lo-fi. It will slow loading for those who choose more posts per page, but that only affects them. It will speed loading for those who choose fewer (but they'll have to load more often).

What is a page win, and how would allowing some users to change their page length affect it?

I voted no only because of the referencing problem it would create. I think I just don't like change, though. :P I hated it when SS was changed to the way it currently looks (although now I can't even remember what it looked like before).
