Yes, we do need another mod on here. If granted, I would do it with pleasure, however I agree with the motion for THC.

I have no idea about the current moderators, past moderators or who would be good candidate for the new moderator, but I generally agree with you guys. I have nothing against a new moderator. At least it might lower the response time to spamming etc.

I also recommend getting moderators from different time zones* so that they would be online in different times.

I decline. I'm currently a moderator/administrator on another forum which, while not being particularly active, still takes up quite a lot of time as I comb through the daily posts etc. I'm also not a native speaker and have no sense of humor, especially not of the more complex inside type.

I'd be willing to do the job. I mod on a couple other small forums like this, it's not hard. My biggest problem as mod is I'm a bit gun-shy; I'm often afraid to take action against someone and offend them if it's not blatantly obvious. I rule against most spam with an iron fist, though.

OTOH, I think all we really need is more presence. There's not too much load here for the moderators, they're just normal people with a life rather than nerds like me who never leave the computer. When you click "Report this post", who does it notify and how? Perhaps if all moderators would receive an email (and everybody would report inappropriate posts), we could get things under better control. An email would reach them even when they don't visit the site, and sending to all of them makes it more likely that one is available.

no we just need less trippers posting  at least in the driving tips forum... Prodigal Son used to always post good technical material, anyone who was on the forums back then knows we need more people like him.

I thought this was about car mod(ification)s.

I've been clicking on "View Active Topics" that I've forgotten how things are classified, and never notice if they aren't classified properly. There is some spam about phones once in a while, and sure, some general weirdness, but I don't see any overwhelming need for a new mod. But if there is one, I hope they won't delete off-topic posts or threads, as those seem to be the only ones that are active. Seriously, I haven't read nor written anything related to shifting in weeks. 8)

...because shifting is a mature art form and manual transmissions are a mature technology. Besides diagnosing symptoms, most shifting issues are already covered by the FAQ's. It's more of a social forum for a select group of drivers than a forum about driving with Amish transmissions.

we must look after the noobs that come here and give them the technical responses they need. But there also is a level of technicality you can go to that will just make driving suffer. As long as we can find the medium and try not destroy noobs threads with junk then to me the forum is fine, in the common threads junk posts are to be expected, but maybe lay off a bit for the new guys and give them the knowledge they need.

While we do tend to sometimes garbage up threads with off-topic stuff, I must stay that everyone's doing a pretty good job at actually helping the new people or those with more technical questions. I don't really see such things as: "SEARCH NOOB!!" and what not. As repetitive as it is for those of us that have been here longer, we still don't mind answering.

I think that's one of the best traits of this forum.

And that's what made me stay. I remember that my first thread was about driving in the snow with a manual transmission and rather than the "use the search bar noob" that I would've got in other forums, I got serious answers. It made me want to stick around for whatever else I needed info on.

I know I can come here for serious techinical subjects but I also know I can come here for a bit of fun because this site seems to have a closer-knit community than any other forum I've been on.

Occasionally rifts appear between members but most of the time it's friendly.

I want to stay on this site but I'm getting a little fed up with useless pages of uselessness.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm here for the general comradeship and car talk more so than the shifting advice. I don't want that to change or think it's a bad thing, I just wanted to state my hopes that the new Mod would realize that being off-topic is pretty much being on-topic around here. And as someone stated, when the need for focused advice is present, it is given, so the off-topicness isn't really a problem, it's just entertaining.

I am going to moderate my own comments from now on.

If you add SN before your current post count as of this post, you have the chassis number of your car

Ack, I ruined it with a post on another thread, and now double ruined it with this post. Still, good joke. I'll be moderating your posts now, too. At least mentally.
