Forum suggestions

Post by theholycow »

I wonder if a Conversion Tech forum, about converting automatic cars to manual, would bring in users and a bunch of technical discussion?

Would a hypermiling forum be too controversial?

Just a couple ideas I thought of for this place.

we could go on about hypermiling just as much as we could about how to prevent clutch wear, or the usefulness\uselessness of DCing. i say lets do it.

I think that because auto to manual swap can have such intricate details that may vary from car to car, users would be able to get more of their questions answered on forums that are focused on their vehicles.

Agreed, but if you do a swap, do a writeup for those who try it in the future.

Good ideas in this thread though!

I vote yes on hypermiling forum.

I vote no on conversion forum, but present the following alternate: Maybe a "Mad Science" forum. Any large undertaking / major mod writeup could be presented there. Your transmission project, my (upcoming) ECU tuning project, etc. would all be located there... waddayathink?

I think my conversion project, your ECU, and really any such discussions fit just fine in "Parts and Problems". The conversion forum idea was because this is a site about manual transmissions and that might bring in more people who want to discuss manual transmissions.

Half of what you do to your car is considered 'modding with no budget'.

And yet I still manage to do it the right way.

I suggest that we get a favourite icon (favicon.ico or something like that) so that I can get rid of the "SS" test in my bookmark bar.

You wouldn't believe a few of the odd looks I've gotten when I made a mention of "SS" in conversation...

I guess I could remove the texts as I probably remember which one is SS and which one something else... Still, it'd be prettier if there was a unique icon for it.

What browser are you using? There's got to be a way to assign a favicon.

If there's not and you're using Firefox or Opera, you could make a UserJS/Greasemonkey script that will insert a favicon into the HTML in your browser.
