That reminds me, I need to get a stuck bolt out... Considering that I'm not known for my finesse, those screw extractors don't seem to be working too well for me.

I am gonna fix the e brake so it actually works and then replace the clutch plate! i also might do some work on the radiator. so im gonna take pics and post them if you guys think it can go on some section of maintanence

I've got to say that the simplicity of the site is a big draw. If it had pictures of sporty cars or girls sprawled all over cars I would have looked right past it. It's sort of a sleeper :). I do have to say that I am looking forward to the upgrades and I think that the DIY/photo section is a good idea as long as it's kept simple (as suggested) and doesn't turn the site in the direction of a 'fix it' place. Just my .02

I do like the idea of expanding standardshift to have tutorials with pictures on how to do stuff for your car.

Maybe throw up a Wikimedia setup, the community can build it from there. :D (and we can always give select access to select members that request it, to prevent the random editing Wikipedia is plagued with).

I'm pretty sure StandardShift could set something like that up by himself (shouldn't be more complicated than it was to set up these forums), but I'll offer any help myself technology wise anyway.

I think a wiki is a great idea. I have one on my website.

Out of all ideas, the DIY is my favorite. It should be a top level section, parallel to Tranny Talk. Other than that, flashy stuff can be left out to save storage space.

I just recently went through a redesign of a site that I host - and my traffic dropped to about 1/4th for the next 4 months... and its been low then...

Although I'm a developer and I always like making new things, sometimes its good to leave it how it is. I learned from my change - the first way people see something is the way they get used to it... and then they rebel when it changes - even if it IS better. *the intelligence of the masses...*

Spell checker: use Firefox too - it has a built in spell check with suggestions in the text box.

DIY: yay!

Maybe SS.com could offer pages that people can put their car related stuff on, also as great as the forum is the main site could do with a face lift... If there is any coding to be done I can help with php.

WIKI

Why custom code an app full of security holes for documentation, when Wiki is a secure all in one documentation application.

D:

Cool thing about a Wiki is that it will improve hit results as we write documentation on how to do things to a car. :)

As for the main site, it serves it's purpose, I don't think the look is too appealing, but theres no real need to add stress on the server by changing it to a PHP page.

HOWEVER, flash videos would be awesome on the FAQ. :p
