RSS feed

Post by griddlecan »

Hello all--

I've been subscribing to the Standardshift feed for a month or so, and sometimes I receive 2 or even 3 copies of the same post in my aggregator. Is this something a moderator has the access to fix, or is it something the board host must tackle? Either way, it's a PITA! :P Thanks!

sorry, mods don't have any power over that, Standardshifter would have to take care of it.

there used to be a custom RSS feed builder page but i can't find the link for it and the thread about it is gone so i guess it's not available anymore.

Hmm, the RSS feed has been stable for a couple of years. Trouble with any other feeds as of late?

That custom builder was another php script from the RSS one.

i've never figured out exactly what RSS was, or how to use it.

It's a syndication method.

This seems to cover the basics and looks like a good summary of what RSS is and how it works.

This happens from time to time if the published date gets re-written by accident or your aggregator loses track of the last read date (if its cookie based, for example and web related).

At any rate, I have about 195 RSS feeds I read about 2 to 3x a day (usually at work ;)) and I run into that issue with a few websites... it all seems to be a botched attribute or an unclosed xml 'body' summary or something.

I'm having a bit of a problem with the RSS feed, in that it hasn't been picking up all the new posts that are made. Is it only updated every few days?

I'm just using the live bookmarks in firefox, however (thanks standardshifter?) it looks like the problem has been resolved for me :)
