I've got to say that looks pretty good, but the text being half on and half off the sign makes it a bit weird.

It is a bit unusual (7-speed shifter) but I feel that's what gives it its pop. You can tell it's a shifter, but it's not a conventional one, and still conveys the name of SS. Nice and simple, black and white minimalistic feel.
Wow that has potential, nice job!

I agree. I tried with it off, and it didnt look as good. If I could throw a third color in there it would look much better.

I like where you're going with this. Maybe we could incorporate some more imagery? Make the "i" a stickshift, possibly? Also, if the letters were thicker, they might convey the meaning of the site better. It is predominately a male interest, and not to exclude women, but that's the market to target. :)

Image
watkins - I really like the logo. If the "S" was a little more apparent and the lettering a bit thinner, I think we'd have a working prototype.

Image
Six - I really dig that. Maybe if in the circle in white lettering it said "Shifting the Standard of automotive websites"?

Thanks.
I could probably make it look more like an S. I just worked of the actual sign for that one.
The lettering size goes back to what Bawked said. Any thinner made it disappear into the sign border. The slogan can definitely be made thinner though. I see how its a bit bulky. Originally I didnt have it but it didnt look right without it.

Okay... IMO, this is kind of sh!tty. However, if y'all like it, I can redo it and make it better. (BTW, don't laugh. This is only the second time I've seriously tried to photoshop something.)

EDIT:
That's an actual shift knob. I just wiped the lettering off it.

Since the logo was mentioned in the big meet thread I was just wondering if anything is actually going to happen with this stuff or if there are any ideas in the works.

Oh hey, thanks for reminding me about this thread.

Hey John, I did what you asked (quite a while ago too, forgot to post it). It is the best I can do with what I had (don't have Photoshop CS or Illustrator, etc. to do circular text).

Image

"Shifting the Standard of automotive websites" is now in the black ring, as requested.

So I did the whole follow advise thing too. The sign is about as S-y as I dare make it, and I made the slogan text smaller. The other text is still big and bold to, as I said before, keep it from blending into the lines on the sign.

Image
Edit: One thing I just thought of was removing the dot from the i to make it a bit less cluttered. I may do that tomorrow if theres an interest.

In the ring, center the text on a horizontal axis, and flip the "of automotive websites" part so it can be read easily. Maybe also put a bit of a space between the upper and lower sections to make it apparent that you have to read from the left again on the bottom.

^ Of course, that was what I wanted to do. That's why I said "it is the best I can do," I don't have the tools to do it.

And license plate frames :D I'd totally rock a plate frame with a witty stick-shift saying and then standardshift.com at the top or bottom.
