Wtf I told you I do want the car just not this specific one! If it were that $5500 new edge mustang I was looking at then perhaps it would be good but I still have yet to test drive one so I have no idea.

Matt doesn't post a huge amount, but he lurks more than probably anybody else. He lurked for a good long while before joining, too.

Yeah mtheis can have the special price. That 500 post thing is only there so I don't get some random guy registering on the site and spam posting everywhere to get the discount.

He's been right about so many things before, so why should I doubt him now? If this thing dies on me then I'm out on 3000 cash, which is a farking huge load of money for me.

It doesn't have as much power as it should and that's also one of the main reasons I dislike it.

Hm... wouldn't this information like, lower the value of the car?

Naturally, cars are depreciating assets so it'll be hard to get back what you paid and invested in it.

Bump for new special price.

$2800 CDN, 2305.4752 U.S. dollars (or whatever the current exchange rate is)

is the lowest I'm willing to go because if it goes any lower I will lose money.

This is a special price not advertised anywhere other than here on SS.

This is a rare 5-speed manual, you don't see many Firebirds with the manual.

Next thing I'm going to try is sell it on Ebay, and here's a 1989 auto for example and price comparison...once the auction closes.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... %26ps%3D42

I'm actually thinking of keeping the car now. I still think 2k was a good deal for this car. I saw a 99 Mustang GT asking $5500, but he raised the price to $6500. So I have like 3500 left to make the car perform as well as the Mustang GT, and break even.

3500. I think that's enough to buy an engine that outperforms the 4.6L? Including labour? Labour is going to kick my ass.

Actually, make that half, because this car is still an old 1991, not 1999. So...

1750. Hmm. I don't think that's enough for a new engine.

I still like this car, I really do. I keep looking for cars to replace it, and there is all this junk FWD 4 cylinders on the market. It's hard to find another car that I would like to trade for because everyone has these underpowered econoboxes. Even though it's not performing to its full potential, I still have that lopey V8 growl. And that is just a pleasure to hear.

When I bought this car I though eventually I would replace the engine anyway. So that's why I brushed off the engine problems. Was this a mistake?

 Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

You'd best be learning how to do your own wrenching. Tack on a couple grand or more... You're looking at a grand for a rebuilt used engine... Or more than a grand. You could probably DIY a bolt in engine for about what you've got, but ONLY if you went DIY, and only if it doesn't require extensive modification.

Instead of saying you're not good at working on cars, start reading, and push to get better at it.
You can only get better if you learn, so start learning. Find somewhere on the net where mechanics hang, hit 'em up with questions, get some books from a library, go to howstuffworks, and find a forum that covers your car, preferably with some actual experts on it being on said forum.

Read your service manual through, find out things about the car. Know it like the back of your hand.
Then get some tools and get to work.

I did all of this, and it's only occasionally that I get into a major jam and need help.
For shit's sake, I'm already looking into getting a motor for my car to rebuild, slap it in my car, then rebuild the one I just pulled out of it.

Lesson #1...
If you can learn to DIY, do so.
Otherwise, you WILL get ASSRAPED by shops. This I guarantee you.
If you look the least bit like you can't call them on any bullshit they pull, you will get assraped TWICE AS HARD.

For some reason, the shops in my town automatically assume "If it has tits and a vagina, it must know jack shit about cars, and therefore it can't possibly know we're taking it for every cent we can get."

Considering that the car is rotting in the driveway and you can't get anyone to buy it, it's not like you have anything to lose by trying to learn to wrench it yourself. Now's the time. In ten years when you have all kinds of bills to pay, that's not a good time to experiment on your only transportation to work to see if you can fix something...
