you still have to remember it is a highly turboed 4 cylinder, meaning accelerated wear no matter if it was babied or not. make sure to inspect it as thoroughly as you can without tearing the whole thing apart. a list of what has been done to it in terms of aftermarket and\or replacement parts is always a plus. also when test driving have that person drive it and get a look see on how they drive it every day, it'll give you a better idea of how the car was treated on a daily basis.

Also, not sure how big of a deal it is in the real world, but I've heard others complain that STis are tuned to take 93 octane, which we don't have here in Cali. Nothing a cobbsport tuner couldn't fix, though.

The MS6 was also tuned for 93 octane. I had no problems with using 91, and neither has anyone else with an MS6 in places without 93 octane (which, contrary to popular belief, occurs in other states besides California). The car adjusts itself to it. And yes, an AccessPORT can easily fix that...

knock sensors are there for a reason. just don't go too overboard like using 87 and you should be fine. the knock sensor is just going to load more gas in there so the heat from the lower octane gas doesn't cause pre-ignition. idk if that would cause any extra wear to the fuel pump though?

So, I've been in active search of STIs for a while, and I noticed something weird that I don't really understand.
A lot of people are listing their STIs for way over KBB private-party value. Now, I know a lot of them are including the price of their mods, but some of them only have short-shifters or springs, but still are asking $2,000 to $3,000 over KBB. My guess is they are trying to bank on their perceived popularity of the STI, but I just keep seeing the same STIs relisted over and over every week. Same price. Weird, right? There was even a guy so brazen as to mention the KBB price for his 145k-mile STI, but asking $3,000 more because of how "great" condition his car is, and how "insanely popular" STIs are. That was three weeks ago. It's still there.

The problem is that, as often happens, KBB is wrong.
KBB doesn't set a car's value, they claim to report it. Granted, their proclamations do affect the price of the vehicle, but their job is still to report the most common price that a car sells for.
Either market value is higher than KBB says, or sellers eventually give up and sell for a lower offer. Try offering a price that's reasonable to you.

KBB is often not representative of the true market value of the car. As an example there is minimal differentiation between an automatic and manual GTO, however in the real world on the dealer lots and private driveways, the price difference can be a few thousand as the manual is more desired and more rare.

Even with the questionable values from KBB taken out of consideration, I still keep seeing all the same STIs being relisted over and over. If the prices were set correctly, wouldn't people be snatching them up? I would make them offers, but they are not really what I want (too modded, wrong color, etc.). One that I do want doesn't seem to show up.
