Wanted: GM clutch pedal

Post by theholycow »

Don't ask me what vehicle it comes from. It's for a custom application. I'll know it when I see it. I'm pretty sure a pedal from a GM vehicle will be easier for me to use.

Requirements: Looks like it will fit, is not expensive.

It will more likely come from a car than a truck. It should be about 14 inches long and not too curved/bent. I could probably narrow a brake pedal if you have one with a decent shape/length.

I just made it up for this post. It's a spamgourmet.com address so I don't have to worry about posting it publicly...

What about a junkyard? Would you have better luck that way, perhaps?

Normal junkyards are great if you know exactly what you need. Self-service junkyards are great if you need something common. In my case, self-service junkyards won't have any GM clutch pedals, and full-service junkyards won't want to help.

Spend a day wandering around Henrys. There may be something somewhere random. Id check out Saabs too, seeing as GM owned them for a while. It wouldnt surprise me if there was a similar or identical mounting

I don't think we found any GM manual transmission cars at Henry's, though we didn't bother looking in FWD cars...

Whats wrong with the pedal from the S10? Is it just that it interferes with the brake?

It'd probably be cheaper, easier and quicker to just modify what you have to make it work. You're already committed balls deep to the swap, so whats a little more modding?

It's not like you're putting a VW diesel engine and manual trans in there?

The S10 pedal interferes with the floor and there's no way to persuade it with a sledgehammer or hydraulic press. I'd have to re-cast the steel.

I can possibly fix this sideways brake interference with a sledgehammer:

I could conceivably fix this excess length with a cutoff wheel in the angle grinder and a large quantity of drill bits:

I cannot fathom a way, however, to fix this interference with the floor except by cutting it and having it welded sans curve:

(The last picture is the brake pedal but the profile is the same.)
