I thought this project had already been buried, but apparently, since Autoblog posted about it today, there's still development going on. It looks great apart from the restless interior. But then again it's a sporty Toyota, not a sporty Audi or Mercedes-Benz, so it's natural that it's more "youthful".

I could have one if it wasn't so expensive. If I can ever afford one, it'll be when I have a house, dog and 2.3 children and am looking for a beige Volvo station wagon...

Without a sequential shifter, what is the compelling interest in having a digital readout of what gear you're in?

I think that just hasn't been thought out. Perhaps the guy responsible for the dashboard didn't know that the other guy, who worked on the center console, was going to put a stick there and thought that such readout would be "sporty" since most performance cars in these days have automatic or semi-automatic gearboxes.

It doesn't need to be necessary...that whole car isn't necessary. It's just neato.

Does it remind anyone of the Nissan Z, by any chance?

yeah it's the Toyobaru. looks like it's probably actually going to happen. they're talking about late 2011. wonder how long it will take for Subaru to slap a turbo on their version.

i wanna know what's up with the zippers on the dash. that's kinda weird.

You can easily buy 2 of these if you have a house, minus the dog and the children. When you're single, your pockets jingle!

This car sure is tempting. I hope Toyota is not teasing us like Honda did with its NSX.

Ooh, I'm very interested in hearing about a turbo version of this. I wish they had more details to give about the performance!

Good luck heel-and-toeing with these pedals! I hope this is something they change:

I think it looks pretty good. I mean, you can't really expect them to make it boxy and rolling on 14s. As long as it isn't super heavy like most new cars (they did say they were trying to make it light) and performs well, I think I'll probably like it.

BTW, I read somewhere (can't find it now) that it should produce ~200-250 hp out of that na 2.0.

After the years of Toyota being transportation appliance central, I can no longer take anything wearing that (quite ridiculous looking) badge seriously.
