Most will not allow you to turn it all the way to "lock" while in N. You have to put it in P to lock the steering wheel.AHTOXA wrote:Any automatic driver should be able to switch to N, shut the engine off, make sure the ignition is turned back to "on", otherwise the steering will lock and coast to a stop.

Re: Interesting test done by Car & Driver
i think the problem doesn't lie in the throttle sticking and them not knowing what to do. not to say that there aren't a lot of idiot drivers out there that probably don't even know what a manual transmission is, but i think most likely the problem isn't when they're on the highway going in a straight line and they have the time to diagnose, react and fix the problem, the real problem would be if you were in the middle of a hairpin turn and all of a sudden when your foot lets off the gas, the gas pedal doesn't come with it. especially considering most cars in the modern world are build with economy in mind, so therefore are most likely FWD and also meaning that when the gas pedal sticks through a corner, most likely its going to understeer. putting them into a ditch, guard rail, or even worse, an oncoming car.
