Yes, it is a Subaru powered Toyota with a 6-speed manual. With their luck it will get stuck at WOT, careen into a curb, and the A-pillar airbags do not deploy correctly.
Another thing:
Possibly its most notable attribute will be the FT-86's curb weight, estimated to be around 2755 lbs.
It's a pig. If that's considered lightweight, I'd hate to see what heavy is.
My car doesn't even try to be light, and yet it weighs a hair under 1900 lbs. What's ruining the a perfect lightweight vehicle every morning is me and my excessive breakfast...
Anyway, while it would be nice if they really produced that car, I don't think I could afford it. Perhaps I could just find an old AE-86 before they all get either riced out or converted to F-class rally cars. On the other hand, paying 7000 euros for a early 80s Corolla...

Honda Fit weighs about 2500 lbs. I don't think adding Nav would tack on 200lbs, unless the navigator is Maria Sharapova. That would be a well optioned Fit.
Back to the Toyota, 2700 lbs seems heavy. But considered that Mini Cooper weighs about 2500 lbs. I think rear drive + 25% bigger engine justify the weigh gain.

I thought 2600+ is a little heavy for a Fit. Then I found out that it's a Sport w/ Navi and automatic. Manual sport weighs 2520. I doubt that the majority of FT will have automatics. That's why I mentioned adding a super hot Russian tennis player as navi to bring that to the FT's weight.
Toyota is moving less forward for less $$$. they will offer a smaller, 500 lbs lighter version of the anticipated FT and gets a 110 hp 1.5L engine for $18k.
Wonder how much you're gonna be able to squeeze outta that engine. I still like the fact that it's RWD, which would help with power. But 110hp seems a little on the low side for the price.
2000 Honda Civic Si- Slightly faster than your grandmomma's grocery getter......slightly.
Keep in mind that the 4A-GE in the original AE86 wasn't insanely powerful - 130 hp in Japan and a bit less in the States. If the handling's good and it's as light as they promise, it shouldn't be that bad. Of course an obese Yankee behind the wheel is going to ruin the power-to-weight ratio of any vehicle out there...
Oh well, either way, I'd like to see this happen. Toyota needs some type of fun car back in their lineup. We're in the minority, but enthusiasts need love too!
