THC paid off by BIG OIL?

Post by Rope-Pusher »

It wood appear TheHolyCow has been holding out on us, probably having accepted pay-offs from OPEC or maybe the major refineries.

Apparantly, Switchgrass makes Lousy Kraut

"Key to Mass Biofuels Production May Be in Cows’ Stomachs"

"University of Illinois researchers report finding previously unknown microbial enzymes in the bovine rumen the cow's primary grass-digestion chamber that contribute to the breakdown of switchgrass, a renewable biofuels energy source.
The discovery tackles a major barrier to the development of more-affordable and environmentally sustainable biofuels, researchers say.
Rather than relying on the fermentation of simple sugars in food crops such as corn, beets or sugarcane, researchers are looking for better ways to convert the leaves and stems of grasses and woody plants to liquid fuel.
These second-generation biofuels ideally will be carbon neutral, absorbing as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as is emitted in their processing and use. Breaking down and releasing the energy in the plant-cell wall is no easy task."

^ Yeth, it ith. If their gonna make fuel from plantz, better they use grass clippings than food crops.

Depends...what were the grass clippings used for before, and what will replace them? Usually on the scale where this would be meaningful that stuff is not waste, it is already used in some other way.

Around here, we could generate so many grass clippings that they would overwhelm the other constituents of a composting process, so the communities have requested we forgo clipping collection by using mulching lawn mowers. Works phormy! (At least until grass clippings become useful for fuel production)

Hmm...good point. On the small/homeowner scale, municipalities generally aren't collecting grass clippings and putting them to work but they could. A fuel industry might create enough motivation to make that happen.
