Re: Scion RWD - FTW?
The JDM AE86 GT 2-door weighs 2,006 lbs and its 4A-GE engine produces 120-130 hp and 105-110 lb-ft in stock configuration. However, for what I've heard, the main point of the car is that it is well-balanced and good to drive, and for some people it's more important than the American way of having just moar powaar. It also has tuning potential and, at least in Finland, is a very popular car for rallying (see here or here or here and check the prices). Of course there's also the silly Japanese cartoon of the guy driving sideways with tofu onboard, but let's not go to that.Rope-Pusher wrote:"The new car is the spiritual successor to the AE86 Corolla, which remains a highly sought after model for its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, light curb weight and well balanced chassis."
So, how much light? How much power? If it was 2000 lbs and $175 horsepressure, it could be fun. At 3000 lbs, not so much.
Of course the new car will weigh something like 3,500 lbs, but then again the power output might be edging 200 hp.

It's called ANIME. And it's a manga too, which came first by the way. GET IT RIGHT.Tups wrote:Of course there's also the silly Japanese cartoon of the guy driving sideways with tofu onboard, but let's not go to that.

I see. Is it somehow related to this:
Do they deliver tofu in Formula D?

Looks just like a clone of the genesis coupe to me.....
Manufacturers need to scrap existing designs and make something NEW. something RWD, light, manual, and fun.

Would there really be market for such vehicles? Of course the majority of the drivers would consider a light RWD car with a manual transmission "fun" and "enjoyable", but would people actually buy it in today's world? I'd say that most people in the "target audience" of such model, like me for example, just can't afford a car like that even if they wanted it, so they end up with a compromise vehicle (grey Toyota Corolla, base model) or buy 6th hand Nissan 300ZX with "minor problems".fa22raptorf22 wrote:Manufacturers need to scrap existing designs and make something NEW. something RWD, light, manual, and fun.

Re: Scion RWD - FTW?
I don't like the looks, give me an original 86 any day...
But hopefully it succeeds. The original 86 was just an everyday car that happened to have a balanced chassis and be rwd, nothing more.... the engine wasn't hugely powerful, do I really have to tell you guys that power isn't the only way to have fun in a car. A brilliant chassis is better.
