It's true - most folks don't know how many gear ranges their transmissions have or which set of wheels they drive. Do you know if your toaster has a brushless or brushed motor? Neither do I. My excuse is that I've never seen your toaster. What's your excuse?

Quite a few folk in Chicago aren't sure whether front or rear powers their car. I hang around in a circle of auto techs and related stories are abundant and amusing.
Quite a few? I'd bet quite a few don't know, but I bet even more do know.

I think the teaming millions aren't as ignorant as you're suggesting. And I worked for years as an auto tech, so I have my share of stupid people stories when it comes to people and their cars. Still though, I say the vast majority of people absolutely know which wheels power their cars.

Interesting observation....but inherently flawed.

My toaster doesn't even have a motor. Not that I know a lot about toasters, but I'd assume that if a toaster has a motor, it is used to raise and/or lower the bread. Mine happens to use a spring mechanism...no motors required.

Now it's probably safe to assume that the majority of people don't care how their toasters work as long as they, well, work. If they put bread in and toast comes out, they're likely to be happy.

You can try to apply that same general theory to cars too, but it would be a major stretch at the very least. See, cars shouldn't be compared to toasters for two big reasons-- 1. A car is a major purchase and a toaster is a minor purchase. 2. People depend on toasters to toast bread, while people depend on their cars for slightly more important reasons. That said, it should be obvious that most people would put a lot more thought and consideration into purchasing a car than they would to purchase a toaster.

Wow, this has been fun, but the conversation is starting to get silly now. I'd love to see an independent poll of a random sample of people to prove that most of them do in fact know which wheels drive their cars. But until then, we have nothing but opinions and we all know what opinions are like, right? LOL

....Ass out of u & me?

....Everyone has one and nobody wants to hear someone else's?

....Every time someone states an opinion, an angel gets its wings?

....An opinion is like a melody that haunts you night and day,
Just like the strain of a haunting refrain,
She'll start up on a marathon and run a-round your brain.
You can't escape she's in your memory. by morning night and noon.
She will leave you and then come back a-gain,
An opinion is just like a pretty tune?

The following is more than most folks know about their toasters or their automobiles:

All around the country and coast to coast
People always say what do you like most?
I don't wanna brag i don't wanna boast
so i just tell em i like toast

[Chorus]
YEAH TOAST!!
YEAH TOAST!!

I get up in the morning about 6 AM
had a little jelly had a little jam
take a piece of bread put it in the slot
push down the lever and the wires get hot i get toast

[Chorus]
YEAH TOAST!!
YEAH TOAST!!

Now there's no secret to toasting perfection
there's a dial on the side and you make your selection
push to the dark or the light and then
if it pops too soon press down again make toast

[Chorus]
YEAH TOAST!!
UH TOAST!!

When the first caveman drove in from the drags
didn't know what would go with the bacon and the eggs
musta bin a genius got it in his head
plug the toaster in the wall buy a bag of bread make toast

[Chorus]
YEAH TOAST!!
UH OHH!

Oui monsuier bonjour coquette
on hon croisoiant on vous a vere
morishe vour Eifel Towere
oui marie baguette bon soir

[Chorus]
FRENCH TOAST!!
FRENCH TOAST!!

YEAH TOAST!!

eh uh uh

toast
