Nice article that covers the changes for the C7 Corvette transmissions, including the active rev match, twin-disc clutch, dual-mass flywheel, and seventh gear for the manual transmission.

Same here. I've only driven a 5-speed...and I'm perfectly happy with that! (except I would like to drive a 3-on-the-tree someday)

Welcome, I see you're fairly new here.

If you can drive a 5 speed, you can drive a 6 and a 7. The only thing I'd wonder about with a 7 would be the larger gap between the extremes of the shifter. Would you still be able to apply light pressure up to 5th or would it require more thought not to select 7 from 4th? There's almost got to be a lockout to keep that from occurring.

I don't know that answer.

Either way, welcome again.

LOL I'm sure it's no harder. Sarcasm gets lost a little on the internet sometimes.

My dad had me driving an old Ford pick up three on the tree with blocks on the pedals when I was about 8.

I drive a six now, but I haven't yet tried a seven. But honestly, I think six is the sweet spot for manual transmissions.....seven seems like overkill.

As short as I shift I could stand to have a 6th, even if it were just added on top with 1-5 left just the way they are.

I would agree with this. Add a 6th that is just a highway cruising gear so I'm not at 3000+ RPM at 70mph.

WERD!

As I posted in the other thread about gearing, I think Ford could stand to offer 6 speeds in their more pedestrian models. I'm pretty sure the transmissions from the Fiesta ST and the Focus ST could probably be swapped with only very minor tweaks to the base engines in both (base for the US market that is). I think the engines are related, but the ST variants have lower compression whatever else needed to accept the turbo.

70 MPH is apparently right close to 110 according to Dr. Google. I'm just a hair over 2500 @110, still a little high for ongoing cruising my opinion. If I'm going 60 I'm at 2000 in 4th or about 1400 in 5th. 5th makes more sense to me.
