The Polo isn't offered in the US market, but it looks like a manual was missing in the GTI version over the past five years. Looks like it will make a return:

"Keen drivers rejoice: revamped hot supermini will be offered with a manual gearbox when it arrives in 2015"
I know BMW brought back a manual on some older models, but I don't know of any models looking forward where there wasn't a manual option, and now there is.

What the heck did I just read? Is this 4 cylinder buggy turbocharged, or is that a typo? The two bolded parts seem to contradict each other.autocar.uk wrote:Compared to the current car, the revamped Polo GTI will also benefit from a power upgrade that takes its 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine from 177bhp to 189bhp.
Other UK-specific details of the revised Polo’s model range have been confirmed. Although three diesel variants – all 1.4-litre, three-cylinder units – will be offered on the Continent, the UK won’t receive the most powerful 104bhp, focusing instead on the 74bhp and 89bhp powerplants, which are both more frugal than the units they replace.
I kind of like the looks, except for those two letters on the boot, bonnet, and wheels.

i think they were unclearly trying to say that the diesels in the UK will not be turbocharged. those diesels get insane MPGs. to give an idea of how good these engines are (imo), i drove an ~03 polo with one of the 3 or 4 cylinder 1.4 litre gas engines in southern spain and it felt much quicker than the numbers would've lead me to believe. it felt to me similar to my 94 civic ex coupe (which is what i owned at the time), once i got used to the clutch.tankinbeans wrote:What the heck did I just read? They're treating the GTI and the diesel offerings as separate models.tankinbeans wrote:What the heck did I just read? Is this 4 cylinder buggy turbocharged, or is that a typo? You can't get 74 or 89 bhp from a three-cylinder 1.4-liter diesel engine without turbocharging.potownrob wrote:i think they were unclearly trying to say that the diesels in the UK will not be turbocharged. those diesels get insane MPGs.

Where does the Lupo fit into VW's lineup?

In the European market, Lupo was in the "city car" bracket together with Fox and up!. It's smaller than Polo.tankinbeans wrote:Where does the Lupo fit into VW's lineup?
