Bunch of nonsense about interior designers not having room for a shift lever with all the cupholders and cubbies...Except in a few classes of vehicle it's hard to find a column-shift automatic anymore...They put the AT mode selectors in the same place they'd put a shift lever and many are made to look very similar.

But the "Bouquet" of an Amish shifter is
HUGE compared to that of a slushbox shifter. They ARE a packaging nightmare.

Excuses, excuses.
They're not as profitable among the lazy set and don't see, thus they aren't offered. Shifting while applying makeup and chowing a heart-attack Burger deluxe while sipping a Mega-Buddy is difficult and the concept of getting in a car and having to do something to operate it safely does not compute. People have other things they'd prefer to do with their hands than play with a stick (see hyperbole.)
