I've noticed at times slamming on the brakes with abs kicking = same or more most of the time as smoothly just braking, but no tire noise.

Any time you are braking on the track and need to shed a significant amount of speed, you are braking as hard as a panic stop on the street, with just a tiny bit longer to build up brake line pressure.

To an inexperienced passenger, it's indistinguishable from slamming on the brakes.
