1976 Toyota Celica GT
Here it is... my brother's 1976 Toyota Celica GT.
These first two pictures are from the late 80's.
As it sits now...
5-spd!
22R block.
Dual row timing chain!
Transmission from a Toyota GT-S.
If anyone wants to see this car become a project and not just collect more dust, then I will need a volunteer with a trailer to haul it from Iowa to Texas for me.

Nice to see you're rocking the same avatar there, too .
I think my friend's father actually bought one of these a few weeks ago. I'll have to ask him which year. He seemed really happy when he told me he was going to restore it.

Re: 1976 Toyota Celica GT
I believe it's time to resurrect this thread because.... I'm getting the car this month! A lot of things have to fall into place for this to work, so let's hope that I didn't just jinx myself. There will be a corresponding "build" thread upon arrival of the car.

Can't wait! Always loved these. Looks like a mini American muscle car.

Re: 1976 Toyota Celica GT
Just sew you no, knot trying tubey negative, because the car is going to be fun, but my buddy's wife owned one (a 5-speed hatchback) back when it was new and her starter motors only lasted about 1 year - and she wasn't doing anything wrong. We laughed at the irony - replacement starters cost her like $120 each, just for the part, but our "low quality Detroit iron" starters kept cranking w/o issues and if they had gone bad would have 0nly cost us $29 to replace. Back then, $120 yearly expense was like an extra monthly payment on the car loan - not trivial.

Anyone watch Wheeler Dealers on Discovery? I saw a commercial for the show yesterday and they are doing one of these cars for an upcoming show.

Re: 1976 Toyota Celica GT
Congrats. Should be a fun project for you. I always liked the 70's Celicas. Did not like the 80's Celicas as well, although the mid 80s Supras were nice cars. Also liked the early 70's Datsun 240Z, but they became big and bloated by the end of the 70's. I was also a fan of the early 70's Mercury Capri. That was a nice little car. Have not seen one of those on the road in years.
