Thanks for spamming the thread, Rope.
I was surprised to see 20 replies to this topic when I logged on, but I guess that's what happens when Rope eats a Spam sandwich for dinner.

Re: EricTheCarGuy teaches you to drive stick
After having actually gotten a chance to watch the video I could hear the whole of standardshift going "what the h-e-double hockey sticks are you doing, batman!?" I've never bounced on the accelerator to find the friction zone (or whatever you are wont to call it), and no rev-match on the DS! At least mention it.

Re: EricTheCarGuy teaches you to drive stick
well he's downshifting while he's braking. In order to do that he's going to have to be doing heel-toe. I know someone who does exactly what he does. I see what you mean, I think he is just trying to make a simplified version of it. In reality he's probably just testing out the car.tankinbeans wrote:After having actually gotten a chance to watch the video I could hear the whole of standardshift going "what the h-e-double hockey sticks are you doing, batman!?" I also find it hard to bounce on the accelerator on the friction zone. I have seen people do it though.

Re: EricTheCarGuy teaches you to drive stick
wrong; that is his (and many other shifters') idea of downshifting. he either doesn't know about rev-matching, doesn't recognize its importance, or he abandoned rev-matching when he left his last trucking job (probably one of the 1st two though).bk7794 wrote:well he's downshifting while he's braking. Re: EricTheCarGuy teaches you to drive stick
I mean, I sure as hell wouldn't do it every downshift, but I see takinbean's point. Atleast mention it. Plus a few times here or there probably wouldn't kill the life of the clutch.potownrob wrote:wrong; that is his (and many other shifters') idea of downshifting. he either doesn't know about rev-matching, doesn't recognize its importance, or he abandoned rev-matching when he left his last trucking job (probably one of the 1st two though).bk7794 wrote:well he's downshifting while he's braking. Re: EricTheCarGuy teaches you to drive stick
Finally some real discussion about the video. LOL
Yes, he should probably stick to fixing cars instead of teaching how to drive a manual transmission, but I don't think his advice was too bad overall.
