Bad luck hit me again. For the 2007 model year GTI here, they should have a lowered suspension (22mm lower) to match the European-spec GTI.
Guess what?
Rumour has it that VW is not making very good profit on this car because of the high production cost, including extensive laser welding at the Wolfburg plant. They say that the next generation GTI will be out in two years, with a lower production cost while retaining what makes the GTI what it is. (I highly doubt it)
I have an '07 and I don't have the lowered ride height..
And the removed the xenon headlamp pressurized washer system too..
Apparently only later batches for '07 GTIs will have the lowered suspension, which wasn't the word on the street earlier. =(
And they stopped giving out the Fast too..another dissapointment.
So, it's the same price as the '06 but I am missing features.
The only thing good I can derive from all this is.. less weight?
Although overall I am quite happy with how the car handles and the amount of torque it has. The engine note also sounds pretty good, especially under harder acceleration. Compared to the previous generation chassis it's just leaps and bounds better. Still remembering how my MKIV Jetta used to lean like a boat in corners.

On the VW site I have noticed that you can now buy a "Fast Junior" though. Probably VW's way of making up for discontinuing the Fast.Nervous wrote:O damn! I would have loved one of those staring at me from my dashboard
