Any 9 sec stick cars here? Launch Vid.

Post by sc68z28 »

Just wondering if anybody has figured out what kind of clutch it takes to get in the 9's. I'm stuck at low 10 sec passes, and always breaking stuff :(
This 1/8 mile Vidio, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk_pWioiI3s
shows me launching with a 2 disc Mcleod street twin, seem to hit way to hard.
There is slo motion at the end, with to much wheel spin :(
Is anyone using a soft-loc or similar clutch in there street/strip car with any sucsess?

Thanks ---Bill.

Welcome to the site!

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question, but I wanted to point out the pure sexiness of your car.

But really, do you think I care about milage?
Last 55 gal drum of VP103 ($8.00 a gal) lasted for about 350 miles, so thats about 6mpg.

Yeah, man, AWESOME car!

But, in regards to your original question, I'm not sure anyone here would know the answer. From what I know, I don't think any active person here has any professional drag experience and can tell you what kind of clutch you would need.

I wish I had an answer for you, but like six said, I'm not sure of anyone here does. You might want to try a forum more specific to drag racing.
Best of luck getting into the 9s!

Btw, your car is friggin sweet!!

First, I thank all of you for the kind words, and your honesty.
And yes there are other drag race sites that have been very helpfull. The problem is very few stick drag racers, seems to be about 98% autoslides.
I now have a plan in motion, but allways looking for input when I came accross this site, here's what I found.
It's a 7" 2 disc (cindered iron) with adjustable base and centrifugal presure, from Rob Youngblood, @ Advanced Clutches. http://www.advancedclutches.com/products.htm#Sportsman
Got it today, it weights 20 lbs, stock clutch and flywheel 55 lbs.
It will probably take about a month to match balance and fit everything, then back to the track I go :D I can keep you posted if your interested?
Here's some pics of the goods.

 Blasphemers!!

Wish I could help you too, but I was never really into cars until about 2-3 years ago. If I had been, I'd probably know all there is to know about clutches and drag racing. My whole family was into it. Father, mother, uncle, brother, stepfather. Even me, except I'll admit I just liked to watch the cars go really really fast.

Anyway, those pictures are pure sex! :D Good luck with your build...hope it works beautifully for you.

Me:  :) :D

I was hoping people would not see it as a drag car, it's street diven, just not a daily driver 8) . But I quess that's my falt if all I show you is drag vidio  .

My wife found the car 4sale in our local paper spring of 1999. There's more on that story in this CHP feature.

And that car is street legal? EVEN BETTER. That thing must really turn some heads. Definitely let us know what happens with the new parts.
